Madsen, Holden Tandem Lead Cavemen Past Thunderbirds

PROVO, Utah – American Fork entered Friday’s game against Timpview looking for revenge. Last year’s squad fell to the Thunderbirds 33-25 after surrendering 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. This year, the Cavemen responded by jumping out to a 20-0 lead en route to a 58-35 win.
The Cavemen got a big boost from the arm of sophomore quarterback Maddux Madsen who threw five touchdowns with Tanner Holden on the receiving end of four of those touchdowns.
American Fork’s defense set the tone from the first play of the game – the Caveman defense forced a fumble leading to am 18-yard touchdown pass from Madsen to Holden.
And from there they kept on rolling.
On the next drive, Madsen found Devin Downing for a 46-yard touchdown score.

Forty seconds later, the Cavemen defense would find the end zone, Taylor Crump returned an interception 21-yards to give the Cavemen a 20-0 lead.

Timpview was able to put together it’s first successful offensive drive in response capped off by a 21-yard touchdown pass from Elijah Allen to Carsen Ryan. The two would connect again at the beginning of the second quarter to cut American Fork’s lead to 23-14.
But American Fork added two more scores in the second quarter including a 52-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Hayden Betts to Devin Downing.

The Madsen-Holden connection would heat up in the second half with Madsen capping off the opening drive on a 14-yard pass to Holden before adding touchdown passes of four and 16 yards in the fourth quarter.
American Fork improves to 2-0 on the season and head to Nevada in week three to face Arbor View. Timpview falls to 0-2 and is back at home to face Provo in search of its first win of the season.
