Traveling To, From LaVell Edwards Stadium For BYU/Utah Game

PROVO, Utah – The Utah Utes travel 45 miles south to take on rival BYU Cougars on Thursday, August 29. If you’re traveling to Provo, as well, you’ll want to make sure to take the best method possible to get you there before kickoff.

Game time is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., and with thousands of BYU and Utah fans driving south on Interstate 15 during an already-busy evening commute, you may need to plan ahead.

Here’s everything you need to know about traveling to Thursday night’s game quickly and safely.

Running late or can’t make it to Provo?

If you get stuck in traffic or can’t make it LaVell Edwards Stadium, make sure you don’t miss out on any of the rivalry action. Here’s how you can stay up-to-date on everything from pregame to postgame.

Ride UTA

The easiest way to avoid traffic on your way to the game is by utilizing public transit. Ride UTA is adjusting their routine to accommodate gameday needs. Ride UTA will have buses, UVX, and FrontRunner available to fans traveling to LaVell Edwards Stadium.

GETTING TO THE GAME

Bus: The Timpanogos Business Unit will run regular 10-minute UVX buses from Provo FrontRunner and Orem FrontRunner beginning two hours prior to kickoff and ending at 8 p.m. There will be extra buses staged at Provo and Orem to shuttle passengers as needed.

FrontRunner: Normal weekday revenue service.

GETTING HOME

Bus: Customers should board the bus within 15 minutes after the end of the game.

• Staging
  • UVX buses will transition to 1-hour headways and will be staged on at Stadium in both directions. A supervisor will be at each Stadium platform to direct passengers.
  • Direct buses (Stadium to Provo Central non-stop) will be staged on University Parkway. It is anticipated those buses will be MCIs.
• Boarding
  • UVX will service the regular UVX stations and run its regular route (BYU Stadium Station is closest to the station).
  • The direct buses will load on University Parkway.

FrontRunner: Normal weekday revenue service.

• Two additional trains will be stationed at Provo and used for post-game service from Provo to Ogden.

ADDITIONAL TIPS TO RIDING THE BUS, TRAIN

Use Provo Central Station for the best riding experience.

• Board a UVX bus to Provo at the stadium within 15 minutes
• of the end of the game.
• The UVX bus to Provo will connect with a FrontRunner train at Provo Central Station that will service all stations between Provo and Ogden.

Extra UVX buses will be on hand to get you to and from the game fast.

• Use the UVX BYU Stadium Station (southeast of LaVell Edwards Stadium) to get to the game and return to FrontRunner.
• UXV BYU Stadium Station toward Provo Central station is on the south side of University Parkway (near Miller Park).
• UVX BYU Stadium Station toward Orem Central Station is on the north side of University Parkway.

Driving

If you decide to drive to the game remember to plan ahead for delays from traffic and construction. The main construction areas you’ll need to worry about are on I-15 in Lehi and around Bulldog Avenue in Provo.

The main freeway exits that will funnel you towards the stadium are:

• Heading Southbound
  • Exit 272 – 800 North, Orem
  • Exit 271 – Center Street, Orem
  • Exit 269 – University Parkway, Orem
• Heading Northbound
  • Exit 263 – University Avenue, Provo
  • Exit 265 – Center Street, Provo
  • Exit 269 – University Parkway, Orem

Parking

The parking situation for BYU Football can be tricky, to say the least. Make sure you park correctly or you might end up with a parking ticket or possibly have your vehicle towed.

Cougar Club Parking

• (Bronze level and above) is located in Lots 1-6.
• All reserved parking lots will be held for pass holders until approximately the end of the 1st quarter of the game
• Passes are for the specified lot only.

State-issued Disability Parking in The Disability Lot 37 & Lot 2A stalls marked for disability only

The new Disability Lot is located just north of the Indoor Practice Facility (Lot 37). The Disability Lot is accessible only to those with a state-issued disability pass.

A complimentary shuttle will pick up and drop off at the disability lot and the corner of University Parkway and Canyon Road. The shuttle will run continuously from 3 hours before kickoff until 1 hour after. The shuttles are ADA and wheelchair accessible.

There is very limited space for disability parking in Lot 2A that is open for anyone with a state-issued disability permit or license plate on a first-come, first-served basis. Disability Parking in Cougar Club lots are open only to those who qualify for that lot.

Public Parking

• Public non-reserved parking lots are available at places like the Monte Bean Museum and the BYU administration building.
• Street parking or private parking may be available.

Arriving early and pre-planning your parking location will help alleviate any headaches you might encounter in finding parking. Provo Police will be working postgame to direct traffic.

Remember These Don’ts

• Don’t park along University Avenue
• Don’t park on private property without permission
• Don’t park alongside or in construction zones
• Don’t forget to put your belongings in a clear bag before walking to the stadium
• Don’t forget to lock your vehicle

Tailgating & RV Parking

BYU has designated areas for parking and pregame festivities. Tailgating begins as soon as 8 a.m. on game day.

Located directly south of the BYU OIT building and east of Baskin Robbins at 55 East 1230 North (Bulldog Ave) Lot 18.

Availability: Guests may enter the lot starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 29. The lot will remain open until two hours after the conclusion of the game. Parking spots are first-come, first-served. Vehicles may remain in the lot until 8 a.m. Friday morning due to the 8:15 p.m. start time.

Vehicles: Cars, vans, trucks, and motorcycles. RVs and camp trailers are permitted in the Tailgate Lot.

Space: Tailgaters are allowed two parking stalls per vehicle.

Type of cooking: Only propane and wood-pellet grills are allowed (no charcoal or wood fires).

Other details:

• A limited number of portable restrooms, dumpsters and recycling bins will be provided.
• Clean up after yourselves.
• Personal flags, signs, banners, etc. may not be attached to any BYU fixtures or landscaping.
• Please treat those around you and their property with courtesy and respect.
• No alcohol, tobacco or illegal substances are allowed in the tailgate lot or on campus.
• No electrical or water hookups are available.
• No fireworks.
• No tent pegs or spikes.
• No pets.

Late arriving RV and oversized vehicle parking: There is an additional parking lot for late-arriving RV and oversized vehicles that do not arrive at least three hours before the game.

This lot is located at 2230 North 150 East (Canyon Road), approximately three blocks north of LaVell Edwards Stadium.

The lot is for parking only and is not meant for tailgating. There is no longer reserved parking available in this lot. It has limited space and is first-come, first-served. Guests must also be out of this lot at least three hours after the game.

Tailgating in other lots:

Individuals are permitted to tailgate as long as it does not take additional stalls or block the travel lanes of the parking lots. Tailgating activities should take place directly behind or in front of your vehicle.

Cougar Canyon

Don’t forget to arrive early and enjoy the pregame atmosphere at Cougar Canyon located directly west of the stadium on Canyon Road.

Stop by the KSL Sports tent and say hello! Cougar Canyon starts at 4:30 p.m.

For your first look at the Cougs on game day, don’t miss out on the Cougarwalk. Welcome the BYU team to the stadium at 6 p.m.

From 6-7 p.m. you’ll be able to take photos with legendary Cougar trophies.

Get autographs with current Cougar athletes from 6:30-7:30 p.m. before Cougar Canyon closes.
