Timpview Extends Win Streak Over Provo To Thirty Consecutive Games

PROVO, Utah – It’s been 30 years since Provo last beat Timpview on the gridiron. After a 2-0 start, the Bulldogs hoped to bring the 29-game losing streak to an end, but the Thunderbirds would come out on top winning 13-7 in a defensive battle between the crosstown rivals.

The game came down to the final drive for the Bulldogs. After Timpview missed a field goal late in the fourth quarter, Provo trailed 13-7 with just over two minutes remaining. The first two passes of the drive fell incomplete followed by a third down completion for a short gain setting up fourth and long with the game on the line. Provo quarterback Luke Haslem’s attempt on fourth down would fall incomplete and Timpview picked up it’s first win of the season.

The two teams found themselves in a scoreless draw after the first quarter, but Timpview finally found the end zone in the second quarter when quarterback Elijah Allen fought his way through a pair of Bulldog defenders to take a 7-0 lead.

The Thunderbirds found the end zone again on the next drive. Allen connected with wide receiver Raider Damuni for a 41-yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds remaining in the half to take a 13-0 lead into the locker room.

Provo’s defense answered the call in the third quarter. After shutting down the T-Bird run game, Allen was forced to go to the air and Provo made him pay. Ryan Harward intercepted a pass from Allen on the final play of the quarterback breathing life to the Provo sideline.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs answered with a halfback pass from Harward to Ryder MacGillivray to make it a one score game, but the Bulldogs would fail to find the end zone gain.

Provo falls to 2-1 with the loss and begins region play next week against Spanish Fork. Timpview picks up its first win of the season and will face Kahuku High School next Saturday to conclude non-region play.
