RSL Can’t Convert On Offense, Fall To Timbers In Western Conference Showdown

PORTLAND, Oregon – Real Salt Lake was unable to convert any shots to goals and fell to Western Conference foe, Portland, 1-0 on Saturday night.
RSL was stymied on the road against the Timbers, failing to score a goal while possessing the ball more than Portland.
Portland was more efficient on offense and shutout RSL in the critical conference match.

Portland’s Diego Valeri scored the match’s only goal in the 16th minute of play.
RSL surpassed the Timbers in time of possession and shots on goal but was unable to convert anything into an equalizer.
The Salt Lake squad possessed the ball nearly 60% of the match and outshot the Timbers 17-15.

Updated Standings
RSL began the match in second place in the MLS Western Conference standings. After the 1-0 defeat, they are now tied for fourth with Dallas FC after a San Jose 3-0 victory helped the Earthquakes pass RSL by a point.
Real stayed at 43 points following Saturday’s loss.
Their next opportunity to climb in the standings comes on Wednesday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. when they host San Jose.
