Oregon Controls Pac-12 North, Arizona In Driver Seat In South Division

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Three of the six teams in the Pac-12 South had a bye this past week but the North division had a major shakeup on Saturday.

In just one evening of games, Oregon now controls their destiny in the North and Oregon State is currently in second place after their big win over UCLA. Washington took a step back after an upset loss to the Stanford Cardinal.

The Arizona Wildcats are currently in first place in the South with a 2-0 Pac-12 record after beating Colorado on the road.

Here’s the KSL Sports Pac-12 Power Rankings after the sixth week of the season:

NORTH

1. No. 13 Oregon Ducks (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12)

Result: Beat California 17-7 at home.

Recap: Oddly enough, Oregon’s defense was the better side of the football for the Ducks against Cal. After the Bears scored a touchdown in the first quarter, Oregon’s defense held them scoreless for the rest of the game. Quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 214 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while picking up 32 yards on four carries on the ground.

2. Washington Huskies (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to Stanford 23-13 on the road.

Recap: The Huskies couldn’t get anything going on both sides of the ball, allowing 293 passing and 189 rushing yards to Stanford, while racking up just 294 yards of total offense. Washington took the lead towards the end of the first quarter but that was the last time. Quarterback Jacob Eason completed just 16 of his 36 pass attempts for 206 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Richard Newton had 64 rushing yards on 10 carries. Wide receiver Aaron Fuller had a great game with 9 receptions for 171 yards.

3. California Golden Bears (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to No. 13 Oregon 17-7 on the road.

Recap: Cal had to play the Ducks without starting quarterback Chase Garbers. After scoring in the first quarter, Cal couldn’t get anything going on offense. Devon Modster had 190 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. They were only able to pick up 66 rushing yards. Christopher Brown Jr. led the running backs with just 42 yards on 15 carries.

4. Stanford Cardinal (3-3, 2-2 Pac-12)

Result: Defeated No. 15 Washington 23-13 at home.

Recap: The Cardinal trailed 7-3 before Jet Toner made a field goal and quarterback Davis Mills threw a touchdown pass to former Brighton High School star Simi Fehoko to take a six-point lead. Washington made a field goal to trail by three at halftime. Running back Cameron Scarlett put the Cardinal up by 10 with a touchdown and Washington made another field goal to trail by a touchdown heading in to the fourth quarter. Stanford kicked a field goal in the fourth and shut out the Huskies to get the win. Mills finished with 293 passing yards and one touchdown, with Scarlett exploding for 151 yards on 33 carries and a touchdown.

5. Washington State Cougars (3-2, 0-2 Pac-12)

Result: Bye Week

Recap: The Cougars will look to regain momentum after losing their last two games by a combined total of 105 points. During their bye week their defensive coordinator resigned.

6. Oregon State Beavers (2-3, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Beat UCLA 48-31 on the road.

Recap: Oregon State jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter with UCLA only taking four snaps on offense following the Beavers’ third touchdown. Oregon State’s halftime lead was 27-10 when both teams scored 21 points in the second half. Quarterback Jake Luton passed for 285 yards and 5 touchdowns and a rushing score, while running back Artavis Pierce racked up 119 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins hauled in 10 receptions for 123 yards and 3 touchdowns.

SOUTH

1. No. 15 Utah Utes (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Bye Week

Recap: The Utes moved up two spots in the AP Poll. They hope to have star running back Zack Moss back in the lineup after the bye week.

2. No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Bye Week

Recap: The Sun Devils moved up two spots in the AP Poll. They will have a big game at home against a struggling Washington State team.

3. Arizona Wildcats (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12)

Result: Beat Colorado 35-30 on the road.

Recap: It was a back and forth game throughout. Arizona led by four after the first quarter, Colorado had a six point lead at halftime, the Wildcats had a one point lead at the end of the third quarter and won by 5 points. Quarterback Khalil Tate threw a career-high 404 yards, 3 touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver Cedric Peterson collected 3 catches for 99 yards and one touchdown.

4. USC Trojans (3-2, 2-1 Pac-12)

Result: Bye Week

Recap: The Trojans couldn’t have timed their bye week more perfectly, they face No. 9 Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana and are hoping to have quarterback Kedon Slovis back.

5. Colorado Buffaloes (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to Arizona 35-30 at home.

Recap: It was a back and forth game throughout. Arizona led by four after the first quarter, Colorado had a six point lead at halftime, the Wildcats had a one point lead at the end of the third quarter and won by 5 points. Quarterback Steven Montez had 299 passing yards and one touchdown. Running back Alex Fontenot ran for 94 yards on 21 carries and wide receiver Tony Brown hauled in 10 receptions for 141 yards.

6. UCLA Bruins (1-5, 1-2 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to Oregon State 48-31 at home.

Recap: The Bruins defense couldn’t stop Oregon State in the first quarter, allowing 21 unanswered points. Quarterback Austin Burton made his first start in place of the injured Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Burton recorded 236 yards and one touchdown through the air and racked up 64 rushing yards and another score. Wide receiver Demetric Felton had 111 yards and one touchdown on just 11 carries.
