BYU Makes Switch At Kicker Against SDSU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – BYU kicker Skyler Southam replaced starter Jake Oldroyd for the Cougars’ first field goal try against the San Diego State Aztecs.
Southam FG attempt came during the first quarter of the game between the Cougars and Aztecs on Saturday, November 30.
The Cougar kicker entered the game on BYU’s second offensive possession of the game. Southam lined up on 4th & 6 and connected on a 24-yard kick to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage over the Aztecs.

Early in the fourth quarter, Southam missed his second field goal try of the game from 26 yards out.
Southam, a sophomore from Heber City, battled Oldroyd throughout fall camp before being named the backup place kicker and starter for kickoffs.
He was the Cougars’ starting kicker during the 2018 season.
Through 11 games in 2019, Southam had not attempted a field goal. Other than kickoffs, his only kicks were PATs. He entered the SDSU game 3/3 on extra points this season.

In 2018, Southam was 11/16 on field goals and 42/44 on PATs. His longest made field goal was from 47 yards.
The Cougars vs. Aztecs is broadcast on KSL NewsRadio 1160 AM and 102.7 FM. It is being televised on CBS Sports Network.
