Former Utah State Head Football Coach Chuck Shelton Passes Away

LOGAN, Utah – Former Utah State head football coach Chuck Shelton passed away on Thursday at the age of 84.
Shelton was the Aggies’ 20th head football coach from 1986-91.
In his six seasons at the helm in Logan, Shelton posted a 26-39-1 overall record and a 25-16-1 mark in the Big West Conference. He was named Co-Coach of the Year in the Big West in 1991. Over the last two seasons of his tenure, Shelton led the Aggies to a 10-3 conference record.

Under Shelton’s leadership, seven Utah State players earned All-American honors. He joined the Aggies from Drake University where he was the head coach from 1977-85, leading the program to the 1981 Missouri Valley Conference Championship. After his six seasons at Utah State, Shelton spent four years as the head coach of the University of Pacific.
Shelton was born on August 16, 1935 in Rolla, Missouri. As a player, he led Missouri in rushing in 1954, averaging more than 12 yards per carry and led his team to an undefeated season.
