SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz fans seeking access to their team amid the coronavirus outbreak that has sidelined the league may find relief in the latest podcast from the team’s podcast network. Starring Renae and Joe Ingles, the proverbial first couple of the Jazz family, team writer Aaron Falk sat down with the Ingleses to discuss life in the NBA as parents, their marriage, and the world at large. The podcast is produced by Roundball Roundup host JP Chunga.

The podcast, titled “The Ingles Insight” is set in the Ingles home, over coffee, as the couple hopes to share their life with fans of the team, though Renae says it isn’t a completely selfless effort.

“A podcast series for you the people,” Renae says as she previews the first episode, “ I guess you could say it’s for us as well. You and I don’t get to sit down very often to enjoy a nice hot coffee and chat about life and basketball and autism.”

The Ingleses and Falk fire off a series of blind questions to one another about motivation, competitiveness, and how life has changed before and after having children. Parents of twins, the Ingles’ have shared their son Jacob’s autism diagnosis with basketball fans across the world.

The birth of the twins, along with their son’s diagnosis, and Joe’s burgeoning NBA career led to Renae’s retirement from professional netball in Australia. However, it wasn’t a clean break from the netball courts. Renae’s initial 12-month leave of absence was cut short by an opportunity to return to the team she began her career with, the Melbourne Vixens.

After Jacob’s autism was made public, Renae played one more season before moving to Utah full time, a place she says now feels like her true home.

“What I love most about [utah] is the people,” Renae said, “Not only our Jazz family but the group of friends we’ve made outside of basketball but the whole Salt Lake City and Utah community.”

For Jazz fans hungry for insight into the team, and Joe’s life, Renae assured those who are interested that there will be plenty of basketball content for them to consume on the podcast.

“I think one of the best things about getting you to sit down for a half an hour is because of the amount of questions that come through on my social media platforms to try to get through to [Joe],” Renae said,“ I think this actually gives people an opportunity to get some of those answers out of you. And look, who knows more about you than anyone than I do?”

The Ingles’ are hoping to post weekly episodes with a variety of guests depending on what’s happening in the world, and where the podcast is being recorded. The couple’s second episode which will be published Monday will feature Dr. Angela Dunn, the state’s epidemiologist as they discuss the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the heaviness of the national news, the Ingles Insight podcast carries a levity, thanks in large part to the chemistry on air between the Ingles’, and the culture they’ve brought to Utah.

Episode one begins with Falk tasting a mouthful of Australia’s infamous Vegemite spread and ends with Renae pressing Joe on what he thinks his best quality is.

The usually snarky Jazz star makes no bones about his motivations of the podcast, despite his media averse personality, Joe assures the listeners, “I do enjoy this kind of thing.”

Coronavirus Resources

How Do I Prevent It?

The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:

  • Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

The CDC does not recommend wearing a face mask respirator to protect yourself from coronavirus unless a healthcare professional recommends it.
