Jaylon Johnson: Going To Do All I Can To Make Teams Regret The Decision

Apr 25, 2020, 10:08 AM | Updated: 10:13 am

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah cornerback and the newest member of the Chicago Bears Jaylon Johnson will have a chip on his shoulder heading into his rookie season.

A projected first round to early second round pick dropped all the way to 50th overall in the second round by the Chicago Bears.

In a conference call with Chicago media, Johnson said that he has a chip on his shoulder to make the teams that passed on him regret their decision.

“I am never going to forget about that,” Johnson said. “To me, this moment is big and is a once in a lifetime moment, I only go through this once. The way I took it was they (other NFL teams) felt like there were so many other corners better than me that add more value to their organization. I am going to go out every week and show who I am, what I could’ve been for any team that didn’t select me and really just get back to the team that did pick me and show love for them and appreciation to them. I am going to give them all I got in practice and in any way that they need me. But, I am definitely going to do all I can to make teams regret the decision.”

Joining The Bears

Johnson felt like he should have been taken earlier in the draft but he is still excited to join the Bears organization.

“As a competitor and the expectations I have for myself, I thought I would go a lot higher,” Johnson stated. “But I wouldn’t let that confuse people that I have the ability to play at the professional level & live out my childhood dream. I am forever grateful for the Bears for being the first team to believe in me and give me the opportunity to provide for my family,”

Johnson is excited to be a part of a talented defense that the Bears currently have.

“To be able to be a part of that defense and add some value to their defense and organization will be big time,” said Johnson.

Shoulder Surgery Recovery

Johnson had surgery on his shoulder in March after the NFL Scouting Combine. The Fresno, California native played most of the 2019 season with his shoulder bothering him but played through it. After surgery, Johnson is feeling good.

“It’s doing good. I will definitely be ready to go. It’s all fixed and I am ready to go,” Johnson stated.

Johnson said that he and the Bears had a couple of conversations during the draft process and spoke via Zoom or FaceTime a couple of days before the draft.
