SALT LAKE CITY, UtahKSL NewsRadio’s Tim Hughes announced that the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders have hired him to be the public address announcer for the team’s home games.

The morning radio host will be on the mic for the Raiders’ games at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2020 NFL season will be the Raiders’ first in Las Vegas.

“Have to say THANK YOU to the Las Vegas Raiders organization for entrusting me with the mic for their new $1.8 Billion dollar home!” Hughes shared on Facebook. “THANK YOU to my KSL and University of Utah Football families who have been just as excited at the prospect of this gig as me and my son Casey are! Shortly after Hughes’ announcement, the new Raiders’ announcer joined the Yards After College Podcast to discuss the opportunity with Las Vegas, the process of landing the new gig, and what it will be like to announce a game without fans inside Allegiant Stadium on Monday Night Football.

The Raiders opened the 2020 NFL season with a 34-30 road win against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, September 13.

Hughes and Las Vegas’ first home game of the season at Allegiant Stadium will be against the New Orleans Saints (1-0) on Monday, September 21 at 6:15 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN.

About Tim Hughes

Through his radio career, Hughes had a time where he would work out of his studio doing voice work and other things before the 2002 Winter Olympic Games came to Salt Lake City. That year changed his life.

“Not only was I hired by NBC to do their bumpers and billboards for their cable stations, but I also got hired by the organizing committee to be the English voice at Medals Plaza,” Hughes told KSL Sports.

Hughes has now been a part of the every summer and winter Games since 2002 until he became the ring announcer for Glory Kickboxing eight years ago.

“It was the first time in the history of the Olympics where they had one central location to hand out the medals,” Hughes mentioned. “It literally changed my life.”

Hughes started with KSL NewsRadio in 1988, hosting morning drive until 1993.

He returned to KSL and has been with the station in some capacity since 2001 and has been the host of “Utah’s Morning News” with Amanda Dickson since July 2019.

Hughes is also the public address announcer for Utah football games at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

About the Las Vegas Raiders

The NFL franchise was founded in California as the Oakland Raiders in 1960.

In 1982, the Raiders moved to Los Angeles. After the 1994 season, they relocated back to Oakland.

The Raiders played more than two decades at the Oakland Coliseum during their second stint in the Bay Area.

After playing in Oakland, California since 1995, the Raiders organization relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in early 2020.

On January 19, 2017, the franchise officially filed relocation paperwork with the league. NFL owners approved the Raiders’ request with a 31-1 vote on March 27, 2017.

The move was the third in franchise history.

In March 2020, the Raiders officially became the Las Vegas Raiders.
