Real Salt Lake Receives General Allocation Money From Orlando City For Discovery Rights

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake has received $75k in 2020 general allocation money for the discovery rights to Ecuadorian international Alexander Alvarado.
What Are Discovery Rights?
Discovery rights ensure that every MLS club has the ability to sign future young stars of the game. Essentially, discovery rights allow clubs to put their name and attach it to a player without signing him immediately.
That creates some parity between the league and does not allow players to pick and choose who they play for if a club adds a player to its discovery rights list.
Every club is allowed seven players on its discovery list. Clubs may also add or drop players at any time. Clubs frequently add and drop players from their discovery list depending as interest dictates.

Show Me The Money!
Do not hold your breathe RSL fans. The $75k received from Orlando City will likely go straight into Dell Loy Hansen’s pocket as he is currently actively attempting to sell the club.
The secondary transfer window is currently open and RSL has signed three players all hailing from their Academy. Bode Davis, Andrew Brody and Noah Powder are talented players but not the sort of signing that really excites the fanbase.
The club is currently frozen. No money is coming in and no money is going out. Until new owners arrive it seems as though that the current roster is set.
Next Match
RSL find themselves in a must-win match at home against the Portland Timbers. RSL currently sits one point shy of the playoff cut line while the Timbers sit comfortably in the second position in the Western Conference.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. for Wednesday, October 14th at Rio Tinto Stadium.
