SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – As expected, Utah quarterback Drew Lisk will not return to the Utes’ football program for the 2021 season and is calling it a career.

Drew Lisk spent four seasons with Utah football and ended his playing career on a high note. In the 2020 regular season finale, Utah was trailing Washington State 28-7 late in the second quarter when the Utes benched Jake Bentley.

Drew Lisk gave KSL Sports the following statement:

“It was certainly a good, long ride at Utah. I can say with confidence that I don’t have any regrets about being a Ute for 5 years. It was a challenging, amazing experience and I wouldn’t do things any differently. Thankful for the entire program, staff and university for providing me with this opportunity.”

Lisk led the Utes’ offense to score 31 unanswered points (38 if you count Clark Phillips’ pick six) and finished the season with three straight wins. The Jordan High School star completed 15 of his 26 pass attempts for 152 yards. He didn’t turn the ball over. Lisk was a critical part of Utah’s offense scoring 31 points in the second half as he kept their drives moving and setting his teammates up to make big plays.

After the win, head coach Kyle Whittingham spoke to the media about the performance from Lisk.

“Drew Lisk is one of my favorite players on this entire team,” stated Whittingham. “He’s completely unselfish, he’s got a great attitude, he’s just the epitome of a great teammate. All he wants to do is help the program any way he can. We’re elated when he decided to come back because he’s got two or three degrees and all kinds of stuff that he could do and I think this was his last game here at Utah, even though he has the opportunity to come back. I just don’t think that’s in his plans. But Drew Lisk is a pleasure to have on your team, he’s a guy that helps everybody around him as much as he possibly can. He’s like a coach on the field. You saw the legend of Drew Lisk was born in that second half and he’ll be able to tell that story for years how he came in and rallied the troops.”

Lisk played in seven games during his time at Utah, completing 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 204 yards.

Kyle Whittingham told ESPN 700 on Tuesday afternoon that Lisk would not return for the 2021 season.
