SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah women’s basketball team couldn’t complete their comeback despite 27 points from Brynna Maxwell in their 84-74 loss to Oregon State.

Brynna Maxwell and Utah trailed the Beavers 23-16 at the end of the first quarter before being outscored 21-19 in the second to trail Oregon State 44-35 at the half. The Beavers had another solid quarter in the third by scoring 22 points and holding the Utes to 16 and they had a 66-51 entering the fourth quarter. Utah pulled within two points with 3:22 left in the game but OSU picked up a three-pointer from Talia von Oelhoffen and the Beavers never looked back.

Brynna Maxwell led all scorers with 27 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, 4-for-10 from the three-point line and made all 11 of her free throw attempts. Kemery Martin added 16 points and 4 rebounds, while Dru Gylten scored 11 points and dished out 4 assists.

For Oregon State, Aleah Goodman had 21 points and 5 assists to lead the Beavers. Sasha Goforth recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Utah did well on the boards but the Beavers outrebounded them 42-36. Their shots didn’t seem to fall other than the second quarter when they made 50 percent of their field goals and three of their four attempts from downtown. The Utes finished the game shooting 34 percent (21-62) from the floor, 27 percent (7-26) from the three-point line and 83 percent (25-30) at the foul line.

Oregon State shot the ball better, making 47 percent (28-59) of their field goals, 44 percent (8-18) of their threes and 71 percent (20-28) of their free throws.

The Utes dropped their record to 4-10 overall and 3-10 in Pac-12 play. They will be back on the road to face California on Friday, February 5 at 7 p.m. MST.
