SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah legend and the NFL’s 2020 Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith announced his retirement on Monday morning.
Smith’s story impressed more than just football fans. His comeback from what could have been a career-ending injury was showcased in ESPN’s Project 11 documentary and stunned viewers with the severity of his injuries and recovery.
Smith was a No. 1 NFL draft pick out the University of Utah and spent 16 years in the NFL. He played for the San Fransisco 49ers, Kansas City Cheifs and the Washington Football Team.
