Tony Finau Enters Round Two At Charles Schwab Classic Six Off The Lead

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has concluded his opening round at the Charles Schwab Classic shooting a one-under-par round of 69.

The PGA Tour has been visiting Colonial Country Club for 75 years following its founding in 1936. It was the first golf course in Texas to introduce bentgrass greens to the lone star state. Furthermore, the rough is a bermuda blade that often causes flyers and makes life very difficult for players when it comes to determining distance.

Opening Hole Birdie

Finau began his round in perfect fashion after making birdie on the opening par 5 to immediately jump into red figures. He surrendered the early birdie on the par 4 5th when he found the rough off the tee, missed the green, and left himself 15 feet for par.

He made the turn at even-par and needed birdies on the back nine to remain in contention.

Fortunately, Finau found back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 to jump to two-under-par. He capitalized by making birdies on both par 5’s. On the par 3 13th, Finau gave himself another great look at a birdie after stuffing his tee shot to 7 feet, but lost the putt right and tapped in for par.

Then, he surrendered another shot on the par 4 14th to bring him back to one-under.

Finau made par’s the rest of the way to conclude his opening round at one-under-par, 69.

Spieth The Leader Thru 1

Finau is chasing Justin Spieth and Sergio Garcia who sit atop the leaderboard at seven-under-par.

Finau is playing the opening two rounds alongside Jason Kokrak and Henrik Stenson who concluded their opening rounds at *********, respectively.

Friday’s tee time is set for 6:54 a.m. The trio will start round two on the 10th tee.
