Here Is What Aaron Lowe’s Teammates, Coaches Want You To Remember About Him

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The memorial service for Aaron Lowe was filled with wonderful remarks and messages from Utah coaches, teammates and family.

Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, athletics director Mark Harlan, president Taylor Randall, cornerbacks coach Sharrieff Shah, quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson and cornerback Lacarea Pleasant-Johnson all spoke at the service.

Here is what those individuals said about Aaron Lowe at the service held on Monday in Mesquite, Texas.

Kyle Whittingham

“Donna (Aaron’s mother), he looks so peaceful, so handsome,” said Whittingham. “Such a fine young man. I loved Aaron Lowe, just like everybody who came in contact with him did. He was a special person, had a great heart, great smile, his personality. Every time he went into a room, he had that kind of charm and charisma. He approached life with clear eyes and full heart. To Donna, and the siblings and the family, the University Utah’s here for you to support you. Anything we can ever do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask. As the head coach of a football team, and as assistant coaches, we view each of these players on our team as our sons and Aaron’s teammates are all brothers. That’s how we operate at the University of Utah. We lost a loved one, we lost a family member and it’s difficult. But it was said so eloquently, we won’t get over it, but we’ll get through it. Aaron is gone, he will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on in our hearts and through the memories that he left us. At the University of Utah, we’ve established Aaron Lowe Scholarship Fund. I’m proud and honored to be the first contributor to that fund. That’s an honor for me and it’s another way that we’ll be able to remember Aaron through the years. We’re also going to retire the jersey number and some other things that we have planned. So we just love this young man. We’ll miss you, Aaron, we love you.”

Mark Harlan

“We ask our coaches in the University of Utah athletic department to go out and find incredible athletes, right? But what we really ask them to do is to go find incredible people,” said Harlan. “Young people that can come and be a part of our program with 600 student athletes, who got a 3.6 GPA last semester. How about that? These young men in our football program, number one in the league in graduation rate, 94% of our young people graduate. I’m convinced this because this program is all about family. That’s why we were so honored to have Aaron. He was a special young man. As we talked about in Salt Lake, it’s hard to be a part of this program. It’s the elite of the elite and he was one. He’ll always be a part of our program. As you met with his professors remember what they said he was so, so curious about his communication degree, and the story that was told was that he took special care of the young people that were behind him, the freshmen, and I know our young football players feel the same way. But he did the same way academically, he was just a special young man. But you know that, I guess all I would say on behalf of the entire athletic department. Thank you for sharing him. Thank you for letting him be a part of us for the time that we had him. Yes, we’ll retire the number. But it’s all about Aaron, and everything he did for us.”

Ja’Quinden Jackson

“I didn’t know Aaron that long, about nine months because I transferred from the University of Texas in December,” said Jackson. “The first person that I met when I got to Utah was Aaron, Coach Mac (Kiel McDonald) introduced me to him because we were from basically the same area. One thing I can say about Aaron is he was the most loyal person I ever met. He was a stay down person like he will do anything for you. I just want to let you know that he was more than a teammate, a friend. He was a big brother. I’m the middle child of all my siblings. So I’m basically the little big brother. A-Lowe was a big brother that I always wanted. I just want to let you know that from this day on that I will be 22% better for y’all. Because he isn’t here to do it for y’all so I’m gonna do it for you.”

Lacarea Pleasant-Johnson

“I roomed with Aaron my freshman year,” Pleasant-Johnson said. “Right off that Salt Lake City plane going my dorm room and as I’m walking in my dorm room I look to my left and it’s Aaron Lowe. I have a big brother but I’m not really close to him and just how many times Aaron came through in the clutch was just so unreal. He said “I’ll come pick you up and you better be outside at 7:11, if you’re not there bro, I’ll wait a couple more minutes but then I’m leaving. Miss Donna (Aaron Lowe’s mother) from the cornerbacks room to the Aaron Lowe family we just really love you. Thank you for just having Aaron up at the university. Coach Whitt, Coach (Morgan) Scalley and coach (Sharrieff) Shah, I just appreciate you recruiting this young man, just blessed to have just a little bit of time in my life with Aaron. We are gonna get 22% better, that win last night (Saturday) against SC was definitely for Aaron.”
