SALT LAKE CITY – While Clark Phillips III is playing for the Utes in Salt Lake City, he is continuing to bond with his brother Bryce through their on-field performances.

Clark Phillips is a super freshman cornerback at Utah with his brother Bryce playing his first season at cornerback for Santa Ana Junior College.

Bryce is coming off of his best game since entering college this season when he had an interception returned for a touchdown in their win over Citrus. That was discussed on the latest episode of “Faith, Family and Football.” You can listen to the full episode, below.

How Clark Is Bonding With Bryce Through On-Field Performances

When Bryce got his pick-six, Clark was at his hotel in Oregon waiting to head to Reser Stadium to face Oregon State. But, Clark forgot that his brother’s game was earlier in the day (1 p.m. PT).

I was at the hotel Saturday,” said Clark. “I was actually calling Bryce because we usually say a prayer before we both play. That usually happens before I do meditation for every game in the hot tub at whatever hotel that we’re in. I visualize myself making plays and everything that I’ve seen on film. Nonetheless, I’m calling Bryce and he doesn’t answer. But, I forgot that his game started earlier this week. So I’m calling like, ‘what the heck’s going on, bro? Like, you know my game is a little bit later.'”

Phillips then tried to call his mom who was attending Bryce’s game.

“I went call my mom and she didn’t answer,” added Phillips. Then my mom texted the family group chat that Bryce just got a pick-six. My first thought was like, ‘what the heck? If you would’ve answered, I could’ve been on the phone when it happened.’ Then my mom called me back and she was with my family and stuff. I was ecstatic man, because I know the felling. This happened on the first defensive play.”

Once the news settled in for Clark, he couldn’t even start to meditate.

“I was just hyped man, because I know how much that he wanted to get his hands on footballs,” mentioned Phillips. “I was just excited, proud of him. He’s gotten a lot of PBU’s, teams really stay away from him. He told me ‘dude, I just gotta get a pick.’ It was good to see that, man and that made my day. I couldn’t even sit down. I was getting in the tub and I was standing up jumping around and water is everywhere.”

Comparing The Phillips Boys’ College Stats

I am only doing this because I know Clark well enough to know that this is a friendly competition between the two. Going off of just this season alone, Clark has 40 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, six pass breakups and one interception that was returned for a 54-yard touchdown against Washington State.

Bryce has played in six games, with all being starts. He has 21 tackles, six pass breakups and two interceptions, including one returned for a 25-yard touchdown. The freshman corner has interceptions in back-to-back weeks.

Bryce and Santa Ana will travel to Orange Coast this Saturday, while Clark and Utah will be at home against UCLA.
