John Beck Teams Up With Zach Wilson, Joins New York Jets Coaching Staff

SALT LAKE CITY – According to a report from ESPN, former BYU and NFL quarterback John Beck is joining the New York Jets coaching staff.
This move puts Beck with Jets starting quarterback Zach Wilson. Beck has been working with Wilson since the Draper, Utah native arrived at BYU in 2018. Working alongside Beck, Wilson emerged as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in college football and rose to the No. 2 overall NFL draft pick this past April.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the role for Beck isn’t clear at this time. He isn’t on the New York Jets coaching staff page on the official team website as of Tuesday afternoon.

During the Jets win this past Sunday at Metlife Stadium, social media was buzzing about seeing Beck in Jets attire on the sideline. The former BYU starting quarterback was wearing a headset and talking to Jets QB Mike White, filling in for an injured Wilson. White led the Jets to a 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Beck has never coached in the NFL before. His only coaching experience outside of 3DQB was at a California High School program this past spring.
Possible link between John Beck and New York Jets staff
The potential link to Beck and the Jets coaching staff could be offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. LaFleur’s older brother, Matt, is the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. Matt LaFleur coached John Beck as a QB coach when the two were with the Washington Football Team.
Beck played six years in the NFL after being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2007 NFL draft.
Along with training Zach Wilson, John Beck has trained the likes of Justin Fields, Andy Dalton, Marcus Mariota, Dak Prescott, and current BYU starting quarterback Jaren Hall.
