SALT LAKE CITY – The Mountain West Conference announced that fans will not be required to wear masks or show proof of vaccination for their basketball tournaments.

When the men’s and women’s basketball teams in the Mountain West Conference gather for their tournaments, they will not need to be vaccinated or show proof of vaccination. Fans will also not need to wear masks.

The Mountain West did mention that masks are optional at the tournaments.

This is the first conference to announce any health and safety requirements for their basketball tournaments. The other conferences with in-state teams involved, including the Pac-12, WCC, WAC or Big Sky have yet to announce anything regarding mask or vaccination requirements.

The Mountain West Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments are played in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Thomas & Mack Center, the home of UNLV. The women’s basketball tournament will be played first, beginning on Sunday, March 6 with seeds 8-11 playing with the Championship game being held on Wednesday, March 9.

The men’s tournament will begin on Wednesday, March 9, with the Championship game being played on Saturday, March 12.

If the conference tournament for the men started today, Utah State would be the No. 7 seed, facing No. 10 seed New Mexico in the first round. It’s a tight race for a first round bye with USU sitting one game behind Fresno State for the fifth spot.

The Aggies are currently 15-10 overall and 6-6 in Mountain West play. They have six games remaining in the regular season, including three at home and three on the road.

Utah State’s next game will be on Friday, February 11 as they host Nevada at 7 p.m. MT on FS1 and heard on The Zone Sports Network.
