SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau and Preston Summerhays have both failed to make the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Finau Falls Short Following First Round Collapse

Finau’s second-round 68 was impressive but sadly not enough to make the cut. It looks like he will miss the cut by one shot.

The round consisted of four birdies and just one bogey with his first three birdies occurring within the first five holes of his round. But despite being three-under through five his momentum slowed and he was unable to capitalize on an early second-round tee time and perfect playing conditions.

Fortunately, Finau gave the wild crowd on 16 something to cheer for when he drained his 20-foot birdie putt much to the delight of the rowdy onlookers.

Finau entered the tournament as one of the favorites following his playoff loss to Webb Simpson in 2020.

Preston Summerhays

Summerhays, 19, was the lone amateur in the field and battled his way to a six-over-par total through two rounds. His opening round, which was cut short due to darkness and had to be resumed early on Friday morning, concluded at four-over-par. After a short turnaround, Summerhays was back on the golf course and put together a far more effective two-over-par round.

However, at six-over-par Summerhays finds himself well off the cutline and will have to look to his next professional tournament to play weekend golf for the first time on the PGA Tour.

Sahith Theegala leads the field at 12-under-par while Brooks Koepka hovers three shots back in lone second place with still six holes remaining on his second round. Patrick Cantlay has concluded his second round and will begin Saturday at nine-under-par and three shots off the pace.
