Real Salt Lake Stands Opposed Of HB11 Transgender Bill

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake released a statement on Friday evening with their stance of the passage of the HB11 bill that will prevent transgender girls from competing in high school sports in Utah.
The bill was first passed by the state legislature but was vetoed earlier this week by Utah Governor Spencer Cox.
However, the legislature reconvened on Friday to override Governor Cox’s veto with a 21-8 vote.
Shortly after the passage of the bill, Real Salt Lake sent KSL Sports the following statement:
“Real Salt Lake stands opposed to legislating discrimination,” the statement read. “Our Club remains steadfastly committed to the ‘Soccer for ALL’ tenets of inclusion, respect and fair play. Beyond the field, we always strive for equitable solutions that demonstrate love and compassion for all, especially the youth in our community.”
On March 23, new Real Salt Lake owner Ryan Smith tweeted his reaction to a tweet sent by Utah Governor Spencer Cox, who posted his veto letter.
‘”Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved,'” Smith tweeted. “We need to love these kids. This bill was rushed, flawed, and won’t hold up over time. I’m hopeful we can find a better way. Regardless, to all in the LGBTQ+ community, you’re safe with us.”
