Solo Enis, Utah Football Throw It Back For Star Wars Day

SALT LAKE CITY- May the fourth be with you. Who doesn’t love Star Wars day with all of it’s bad puns and social media fun? Utah football joined in Wednesday’s festivities posting a throwback from their uniform reveal for their award winning USS Salt Lake City one-offs last season with wide receiver Solomon Enis.

Not So Long Ago, In A Galaxy Down The Street
Utah’s creative team took advantage of the poor air quality last summer due to the California wildfires to promote their special uniforms for the big Oregon game to be hosted in November.
While not ideal breathing conditions, the smoky haze throughout the valley provided an ideal backdrop for the uniform photoshoot. Coupled with the mystique of the Salt Flats, the photos and videos from the shoot took on an other-worldly affect that Enis quipped looked like Star Wars and it’s hard to argue against him.

One Ship Fleet
The Utes have a short, but growing history of coming up with unique, one-off uniforms that feature hand-painted helmets. The tradition started in 2016 with a custom drum and circle helmet and has featured a new custom hand-painted design ever since.

Last season they celebrated the incredible history of the USS Salt Lake City and her crew for Veteran’s Day. The World War II heavy cruiser fought in more combat engagements than any other cruiser in the Pacific Fleet. Each uniform featured a single star on the right shoulder so that when 11 players were on the field, it represented the 11 different battle stars the ship earned.
22 Forever
It was revealed during the last episode of ’22 Forever’ that the Utes plan to honor their fallen teammates, Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe with hand-painted helmets this coming season. There have been no further details as to what game Utah plans to wear the helmets, though they are hosting USC in October and the game does hold some symbolism significance in the story of Jordan and Lowe.
