SALT LAKE CITY – Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick plans to work out for the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The NFL insider reported the news on Wednesday, May 25.

Schefter said that Kaepernick was slated to work out for the Raiders later in the week.

Kaepernick last played in the NFL in 2016 and was the primary player to kneel during the national anthem during pregames in protest of racial injustice.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Kaepernick was working out for the Raiders on Wednesday.

Raiders owner Mark Davis recently said that he would welcome Kaepernick with “open arms.”

About Colin Kaepernick

After playing college football at Nevada from 2006-10, Kaepernick was selected by the San Francisco 49ers during the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Kaepernick went on to play for the Niners until 2016. In his second season with San Francisco, Kaepernick helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl XLVII.

In 2014, Kaepernick signed a six-year contract with San Francisco that was worth up to $126 million. Two years later, Kaepernick entered the season having had multiple surgeries during the offseason. He ended up playing 12 games, his last appearances in the league.

Prior to the start of the 2016 regular season, Kaepernick began to kneel instead of standing during the pregame national anthem. Kaepernick said his kneeling was in protest of racial injustice and police brutality.

Since the 2016 season, Kaepernick has been involved in activism and hasn’t been a member of any NFL organization. He was also involved in a lawsuit against the NFL.
