Zach Wilson Leaves Jets Preseason Game With Knee Injury

SALT LAKE CITY – In the New York Jets’ first pre-season game against the Philadelphia Eagles, former Bringham Young University starting Quarterback Zach Wilson left with an apparent knee injury.
The injury occurred on a rollout to Wilson’s right where the second-year signal caller took off for extra yards.

Zach Wilson Knee Injury
The New York Jets announced that Wilson suffered a knee injury. His return was deemed “questionable” by the organization.

Wilson’s night before the injury for the Jets was not a positive one. During his first pre-season pass, he was picked off by Eagles linebacker Kyzir White. A throw-in which White read the young passer’s eyes and stepped in front of the waiting Jets receiver.
Wilson’s injury looked like a non-contact one, which makes this an even more concerning piece of news for the Jets who earlier this week also lost young offensive tackle, Mekhi Becton, to a fractured knee cap for the year.

The Jets spent the off-season looking to protect their young passer by adding big-name offensive line help in free agency and drafting Ohio State star wideout Garrett Wilson in the first round to surround Wilson with a bevy of weapons going into his year two campaign.
NFL players, especially quarterbacks, are known to make large leaps of progression from year one to year two. So there are obvious concerns for Wilson’s career development if the injury is found to be serious.
There has been a growing debate amongst NFL coaches about whether to play key players, especially signal callers, in the preseason.
The Jets, however, are in a tough position as Wilson’s performances last year were substandard by NFL expectations. Wilson threw just nine touchdowns and eleven interceptions while also dealing with injuries throughout the 2021 season.
The Jet’s backup QB is Mike White.
