PROVO, UT- SEPTEMBER 29: Cooper Legas #5 of the Utah State Aggies throws a pass with protection from Jacob South #78, Falepule Alo #69, Chandler Dolphin #74 and Hale Motu'apuaka #8 during the second half of their game against the Brigham Young Cougars September 29, 2022 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State puts their modest three-game winning streak on the line as they face the Mountain West leading Boise State Broncos on Black Friday.

Boise State (8-3, 7-0) will host the Utah State Aggies in the regular season finale for each program on Friday, November 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. (MDT).

With a late touchdown from Calvin Tyler Jr., Utah State knocked off San Jose State last weekend in Logan. The win was the third straight for USU, making them bowl eligible for the 10th time in the past 12 seasons.

It was the third straight win for the Aggies and fifth win in six games. Utah State opened the season by losing four of their first five games.

Keys To The Game

Boise State enters having already clinched the Mountain West’s No. 1 seed. With it comes home field advantage in the conference title game against Fresno State on December 3.

Led by dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green, the Broncos have a dynamic offense that averages 29.1 points per game. A redshirt-freshman, Green has completed 65 percent of his passes for 1510 yards to go with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Green has rushed for 346 yards and seven scores.

Add running back George Holani’s 1,008 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, and the Broncos have a formidable rushing attack that accounts for 189 yards per game on the ground. Good for the third best in the Mountain West.

The Broncos have built the leagues third best total offense and second best scoring attack.

Defensively, Boise State provides a formidable test. Fourth in the MW in stopping the run, the Broncos pass defense allows a conference best 145.4 yards per game. JL Skinner leads the secondary with four interceptions and four pass break ups. Rodney Robinson has picked off three balls this year.

DJ Schramm leads the Broncos with 78 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for a loss.

Milestone Watch

Graduate senior running back Calvin Tyler Jr. needs just 22 yards to reach 1,000 rushing yards on the season. He would become the 15th Aggie to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. Tyler Jr. is 138 yards shy of becoming the 11th player in school history to rush for 2,000 yards in a career.

Graduate senior wide receiver Brian Cobbs (63 receptions) is just four grabs away from entering the top-10 in school history for receptions in a season.

Expected to start his 52nd career game this week, graduate-senior offensive tackle Alfred Edwards will tie the school record set by Tyler Larsen (2009-13).

All-Time Series

USU won the first matchup, 42-19, in a series that began in 1975.

The Broncos have enjoyed a lopsided series advantage since that time, winning 21 of 26 games played. USU is 2-11 on the road against Boise State and have not won a game in Boise (against the Broncos) since 1996. The Aggies are riding a 10-game road losing streak since that 39-14 win.

Utah State and Boise State have played 21 seasons in the same league. That includes 10 seasons in the Mountain West with Boise State joining the league in 2011 and Utah State following in 2013.

Last season, the Broncos won 27-3 in Logan. The last time they played in Boise came in 2020 with the Broncos prevailing, 42-13.
