SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall is in concussion protocol following his first career start for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell offered an update during a Monday morning press conference.

Backup to the backup Josh Dobbs will start for the Vikings against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, November 12.

Jaren Hall’s Injury

Hall exited his first professional start early after suffering a hard hit during the Week 9 game between the Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons hosted the Vikings at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, November 5.

During the first quarter, Hall exited the game and entered concussion protocol.

With 2:49 remaining in the opening quarter, Hall scrambled towards the end zone on a 3rd & Goal play from the Falcons’ four-yard line. Hall ran to the one-yard before getting blasted by Atlanta’s Kaden Elliss and Josh Okudah. As the former BYU star was getting tackled, Hall’s helmet bounced off the field.

Officials quickly signaled to the Vikings’ sideline for medical assistance. Hall was shaken up but quickly got to his feet and walked over to the sideline. The rookie entered the medical tent for a few minutes before heading to the locker room.

A short time later, the Vikings announced that Hall had been ruled out for the remainder of the contest due to concussion protocol.

Prior to leaving the game, Hall was 5/6 passing for 78 yards. He posted a rating of 118.8. Hall also ran the ball twice for 11 yards.

About Jaren Hall

Before his time at BYU, Hall was a standout player at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah.

After high school, the signal-caller served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California. Following his mission service, Hall returned to Utah and attended BYU.

He played for the Cougars from 2018-22, including two years as BYU’s starting quarterback.
