Former BYU Punter Inks Contract Extension With Cincinnati Bengals

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Former BYU punter Ryan Rehkow will be with the Cincinnati Bengals through 2026 after signing a two-year contract extension following his rookie year.

After signing with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent, Rehkow was cut loose in June, giving him a chance to land a training camp spot with the Bengals. The former Cougar wowed in camp to win the job.
The Veradale, Washington native set the Bengals franchise punting average (49.1) and net average (42.9) as a rookie. Cincinnati was ninth in punting average for the season.
Rehkow wowed Bengals fans with his booming leg on September 8. Seven minutes into the season’s opening game, Rehkow uncorked a franchise-record 80-yard punt against New England.
Standing on his own five-yard line, he sent the ball high and deep, bouncing and rolling its way just into the opposite end zone, resulting in a touchback. The 80-yard boot made Ryan Rehkow the owner of the longest punt in Cincinnati Bengals history.
About Ryan Rehkow
Rehkow played four years with the Cougars in Provo, averaging nearly 50 yards per punt in his senior season.
Rehkow had a career average over the past four seasons of 47.4 yards per punt. During the 2023 season, Rehkow’s workload grew significantly compared to previous seasons. He booted the ball 68 times for an average of 48.4 yards per punt.
Rehkow’s average led all punters in the Big 12 Conference in 2023. He totaled 3,289 yards on his conference-leading 68 punts this season.

Rehkow is the first BYU football player to receive a weekly Big 12 Conference award. After BYU’s 14-0 win over Sam Houston in week one of the season, Rehkow was the Co-Special Teams Player of the Week in the conference.
“I will never forget the special moments I’ve been blessed to be a part of at BYU and look forward to representing Cougar Nation along every step of the way,” said Rehkow in his farewell post.
