Eric Daniels Officially Added To Alex Jensen’s Utah Basketball Staff

SALT LAKE CITY—Alex Jensen hired Eric Daniels as an assistant coach for Utah basketball on Thursday, adding his third staff member.
Daniels has been a college assistant coach in the state for the last 10 years. He comes to Utah after serving under Jerrod Calhoun at Utah State for the 2024-25 season.
With this hire, Jensen adds someone wih tremendous ties in and around the state, as well as a growing track record for development.

Eric Daniels is a solid addition to Utah basketball
Daniels is a native of Salt Lake City and is the son of former longtime college coach Donny Daniels, who was an assistant at Utah, UCLA, and Gonzaga, as well as the head coach at Cal State Fullerton.
He brings 16 years of experience to the program and has built a well-rounded coaching résumé in collegiate and professional basketball. His work in recruiting, player development, and strategy played a valuable role in each program’s success.
Before his year with the Utah State staff, Daniels spent the previous five seasons as an assistant at Weber State. He started under Randy Rahe and served under him for the first three seasons. Then, during his final two years, he was promoted to top assistant under Eric Duft.

While there, he helped guide the Wildcats to four top-four finishes in the Big Sky Conference. Daniels mentored seven players to 11 all-Big Sky Conference honors, including Dillon Jones, who was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2023-24.
Before joining Weber State, Daniels served on Mark Pope’s staff at Utah Valley. He helped the Wolverines to three consecutive postseason appearances and back-to-back 20-win seasons, including a program-record 25 wins in 2018-19.
In 2014, Daniels spent a year with the Orlando Magic’s basketball operations staff, assisting with on-court work, player development, and video analysis.
He began his coaching career as an assistant at Southern Utah before spending five seasons at Regis University, where he played a key role in recruiting and player development.
With experience at multiple levels, Daniels has established himself as a versatile coach with a strong track record of player development and program success.

Alex Jensen Rebuilding Runnin’ Utes Program Will Strengthen Utah Basketball Community
With Alex Jensen now leading the University of Utah men’s basketball program, the former Runnin’ Ute standout will soon begin to lay the foundation for his program.
Jensen’s connection to the university and extensive coaching background uniquely positions him to reconnect the program with its storied history and inspire optimism for the future.
It’s become clear, though, that his mere presence is already resonating with the Utah basketball community, which bodes well for him and the program’s future.
