PROVO, Utah- Former BYU Cougar Daniel Schneemann has settled into his role with the Cleveland Guardians nicely and has elevated his batting average to .274 over the course of the first full month of the season.

Schneemann currently has a four-game hitting streak going, including the most impressive performance of his MLB career in a 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, one which now has his name next to one of the all-time greats, Babe Ruth.

In Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays, Schneemann became only the second player ever to have a multi-homerun game on the road, with one of the home runs being a game-winning grand slam when the team was down to their final out. The only other player to do it? Babe Ruth.

Daniel Schneemann Against The Blue Jays

Daniel’s first home run of the day also came late in the game. It was the top of the 8th inning, and the Guardians were getting shut out by Toronto by a score of 3-0. With no outs, Schneemann stepped up to the plate and cranked the second pitch he saw, a four-seam fastball, to deep right field and over the fence for his third home run of the year.

His second home run came just an inning later after Cleveland worked their way all the way through the lineup, giving Daniel the chance to be the hero. There were two outs in the top of the 9th inning, and the Blue Jays were just a few pitches away from closing out the victory. The score was still 3-1, but the bases were loaded for Daniel, meaning a base hit would likely score two and tie the game, but Schneemann had other plans.

It was a 0-1 count, and Yimi Garcia was trying to close it for Toronto. He sent yet another four-seam fastball to nearly the same exact spot as Schneemann’s first home run, and once again, he did not miss. He smashed it over the right field wall, giving the Guardians a 5-3 lead over the home team Blue Jays, which would end up being the final score. Daniel Schneemann ended his career day 2-4 with two home runs and five RBIs, plating every run for Cleveland in their win.

Daniel was rewarded for his red-hot series and was moved to the two spot in the batting order in the Guardian’s final game against Toronto, and will remain there to open Cleveland’s series with the Washington Nationals.

About Daniel Schneemann

In his last year playing for the BYU Cougars, the shortstop posted a batting average of .238 with 28 RBIs.

In 2018, Schneemann was selected in the 33rd round of the MLB Draft, going 1,003rd overall to the Cleveland Guardians.

Between 2019 and 2024, Daniel slowly claimed his way up the ranks, first playing for the Arizona League Indians, then the Single-A Lake County Captains, and Double-A Akron RubberDucks, before finally making the opening day roster for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.

In 2024 with Columbus, Schneemann got a call-up to the 40-man roster, making his Major League debut on June 2, 2024.

Now, Daniel Schneemann starts his 2025 campaign in the MLB as a member of the Cleveland Guardians.
