Kevin Young Signs Long-Term Extension With BYU Basketball

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball has Kevin Young locked in as head coach.
It was announced on Thursday night that Young has signed a long-term contract extension, which the school states will “keep Young in Provo for the foreseeable future.”

Kevin Young signs long-term contract extension
BYU did not announce the length of Young’s contract extension. When he was hired by BYU last season, he reportedly signed a seven-year contract agreement.
After one season on the bench at BYU, Young took Cougar basketball to new heights, guiding them to their first Sweet 16 appearance in 14 years.
“My family and I have loved our first year at BYU, being surrounded by great people, at a great university with shared values,” Kevin Young said in a statement. “I’m excited to continue to build a program based on trying to help young men prepare for the NBA, win at the highest level and do it at BYU. This is an exciting time for all of BYU Athletics with Brian Santiago recently being named athletic director. I look forward to continuing to work with Brian and am excited to be in lock step with his leadership.”
Getting Young “locked in” was a top priority for BYU’s AD
Newly hired BYU athletics director Brian Santiago told reporters last month on his first day on the job that locking in Kevin Young was a top priority for him.
When Santiago said that, Young’s old stomping grounds, the Phoenix Suns had a head coach vacancy. Santiago publicly acknowledged that it was “obvious” the Suns would be interested in talking to Young.
Job number one is accomplished for Santiago.
The job only continues for Kevin Young as he looks to take BYU basketball to greater heights in his second season. First-team All-Big 12 performer Richie Saunders returns, along with No. 1 freshman AJ Dybantsa.
BYU finished last season with a 26-10 record overall.
