Kelvin Obot, Utah Football’s New Five-Star Commit

SALT LAKE CITY – Kyle Whittingham and his Utah football program landed a good one when Fruitland High School offensive tackle Kelvin Obot committed over his other top choices in Michigan, Oregon, and Nebraska.
On Monday, Rivals released newly updated ratings and rankings for the 2026 class and Obot’s placement makes it crystal clear just how valuable landing Obot was for the Utes.
In what serves as their new and initial Rivals300 rankings, Rivals named Obot the No. 7 overall player and minted him a five-star prospect, one of only 12 in the new rankings.

Kelvin Obot’s five-star status and Rivals evaluation
Already a consensus four-star prospect, Obot’s projection is that of an instant impact offensive lineman, much like the Utah’s current starting tackles Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu. Rivals recognized the potential and the projection and solidified his evaluation.
“We’ve loved the Idaho native’s junior film since last October. Obot shows outstanding functional athleticism and is a dominant player against weaker competition. Since February, we’ve nailed down verified measurements and Obot is bigger than expected, checking in at north of 6-foot-5.5 and 300 pounds with plus length. We feel like the great film, stellar movement skills, projectable frame, and multi-sport background (53-1 foot shot put throw this spring) give him one of the higher upsides at offensive tackle in the cycle.” – Rivals
With his latest evaluation, Obot is the highest-rated prospect committed to a Big 12 program. The next highest rated prospect pledged to the Big 12, and the only other in the top 50 is Texas Tech’s Felix Ojo, who is ranked No. 40 in Rivals’ new list.
It’s also worth noting that Utah’s top remaining target—Salesi Moa— could potentially join the list, as he checks in at No. 49 in the Rivals300.
Kelvin Obot’s recruitment and scouting report
Obot emerged as a promising offensive lineman as a sophomore at Fruitland High School. Utah was among the earliest to extend an offer to Obot, who now has an offer sheet that includes 25 programs.
After visiting many schools earlier this year, Obot eventually narrowed down his list of suitors to four schools: Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, and Utah. All four programs hosted Obot last month, with the Utes setting the bar on his first official visit. After evaluating all four options, Obot landed on Utah as his best option.
Athletically, Obot checks the boxes. His snap-explosion and functional quickness make him an immediate force against defensive linemen, and his lateral agility allows him to flow to the second level with ease. His state titles in the shot put and discus are evidence of the lower-body explosion he’s able to generate.
There will be an adjustment period to the speed and physicality of the college level, but Obot has all the natural qualities of an elite prospect. While he already carries significant mass, there’s room for added size and physical refinement.
Overall, Obot’s combination of strength, athleticism, and developing technique makes him one of the best offensive tackles in the class. With technical improvement this season, Obot has the makings of an instant impact player for the Utes.
