SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake had its five-game unbeaten streak ended when FC Cincinnati found a way to score the only goal of the night in the 88th minute for a 1-0 win.

RSL (8-11-4, 28 points) hosted FC Cincinnati (15-6-3, 48 points) at America First Field on Saturday, July 19.

First Half

The match got off to a slow start with neither team putting a shot on frame in the opening ten minutes. Cincinnati had two good looks but couldn’t challenge Rafael Cabral with either.

The first yellow card of the day came when Cincinnati’s Corey Baird wiped out RSL’s Braian Ojeda on the defensive end of the field.

Physical play dominated the early going with both sides trying to find an advantage.

Real Salt Lake had two shot attempts in the 28th minute but were turned away both times.

Alexandros Katranis drew a yellow in the 31st minute after a bad foul near the Cincinnati endline. The possession ended with a shot that skipped wide left.

Five yellows were handed out in the first 45 minutes, with RSL earning two.

Cabral made his best save of the first half in the 45th minute when he got his big right hand on a ball ticketed for the top left corner.

The half ended in a 0-0 draw.

Second Half

Zavier Gozo looked to give the home club a lift early in the second 45 with a pair of runs deep into enemy territory. Gozo came up empty-handed both times after poor touches gave up his advantage.

Diogo Gonçalves appeared to have an excellent scoring chance moments later but was unable to control a pass inside the 18-yard box.

The pace opened up on both sides in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

William Agada nearly gave RSL a lead but had his shot deflected by Roman Celentano in goal.

The Claret & Cobalt piled up possession in the second half despite being unable to score a goal.

After dominating play for 40 second-half minutes, FC Cincinnati broke the stalemate when Luca Orellano beat Cabral for a 1-0 lead.

Real Salt Lake continued to press offensively until the final seconds but couldn’t find an equalizer.

FC Cincinnati prevailed with the 1-0 win.
