SALT LAKE CITY – After following head coach Bronco Mendenhall from New Mexico to Utah State, running back Javen Jacobs will have the chance to shine in 2025.

Jacobs is the next Utah State player on the 2025 KSL Sports Zone Hans & Scotty G. 60 in 60 watchlist.

“Javen Jacobs came with me from the University of New Mexico,” Mendenhall began. “Javen’s good from the backfield at running back. He’s also good in the slot. He returns kicks. Very versatile.”

Jacobs is healthy after an injury suffered against Utah State last season limited him to seven games in 2024.

“He’s done a nice job culturally, work ethic-wise, and setting a really good example for everyone else in our program.” Mendenhall continued.

About Utah State’s Javen Jacobs

Jacobs was the No. 1 athlete and No. 24 overall prospect in Arizona as a prep star at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona.

He was the 5A Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and first-team All-Conference as a wide receiver and punt returner during his senior prep season. Jacobs finished his prep career with 2,931 all-purpose yards and 26 touchdowns.

He began his college career with two seasons at Arizona State. Jacobs appeared in 15 games for the Sun Devils. He carried the football three times for eight yards. He also returned nine punts and six kickoffs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Jacobs transferred to New Mexico for the 2024 season.

He appeared in seven games with the Lobos, rushing for 277 yards on 40 carries (6.9 yards per carry) with three touchdowns. He added 17 catches for 130 yards and one score.

Jacobs’ father, Jacori, played football at Iowa State. His brother, Josiah, played football at Sacramento State.
