SALT LAKE CITY –  Being named a 2025 captain for the BYU Cougars football team is just the beginning for the redshirt senior wide receiver Chase Roberts.

Roberts is next on the 2025 KSL Sports Zone Hans & Scotty G. 60 in 60 watchlist.

“Probably one of the most complete receivers that you can be around,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said. “Big size, can catch the ball, incredible catches. I think people forget some of the incredible catches he’s made because he makes them look pretty routine.”

Roberts’ leadership ability is one of the key factors that sets him apart from the pack. He used some of his offseason time to rehab from an injury and hone his craft, both on and off the field.

“He’s a captain and a leader for our team,” Sitake continued. “He’s coming off an injury that has allowed him to focus on the details of his assignment. Also, focus on being a leader as a culture builder. I’m looking forward to his senior campaign.”

He has played 28 games in his college career and totaled 85 receptions for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns.

About BYU’s Chase Roberts

Roberts signed with BYU as a three-star recruit coming out of American Fork High School. The two-time Deseret News 6A All-State first team performer ended his prep career with 3,709 receiving yards and 40 touchdowns, including 1,717 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior.

He began his Cougar career in 2021 after serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Calgary, Alberta.

After redshirting in 2021, Roberts played 11 games (3 starts) in 2022. He finished with 22 grabs for 357 yards and three touchdowns, flashing the athleticism and body control that are hallmarks of his game. He was the sixth BYU freshman and first since Cody Hoffman to have a 100-yard receiving game.

Roberts etched his name in BYU history when his one-handed, game-winning touchdown lifted the Cougars past the Arkansas Razorbacks 38-31 the following season.

He started 11 of 12 games in 2023, ending the year with 42 catches for 573 yards and five scores.

The 6’4, 210-pound wideout was a defense’s nightmare last season. He set career-highs in catches (52), yards (854), and yards per catch (16.4) as a junior, leading the team in all three categories.

Roberts started all 13 games as a team captain and was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team by College Football Network and Phil Steele after notching four games with 100+ receiving yards.
