SALT LAKE CITY – The Corner Canyon Chargers put on an offensive showcase in their big win over the Fremont Silverwolves in week three of 5A high school football on Friday.

The first quarter was relatively even. Quarterback Helaman Casuga threw his first two touchdowns, but the Chargers led by just seven heading into the second.

That’s when the fireworks really started. 10 unanswered in the second quarter, and then 29 points in the third quarter alone.

Casuga finished with four passing TDs and two scores of his own on the ground as Corner Canyon defeated the Silverwolves, 67-21.

Week 3 Recap For 5A Utah High School Football

Bear River Bears (4A) 14 @ Box Elder Bees 58 

The Box Elder Bees took control early and never looked back in a blowout win over the Bear River Bears on Thursday. The Bees led 37-7 at halftime thanks to three first-half rushing scores from Judd Howells.

Layton Lancers (6A) 21 @ Northridge Knights 17

The Layton Lancers came out on top against the Northridge Knights thanks to 14 unanswered points at the end of the third quarter on Friday. Trailing 17-7 with under five minutes in the quarter, quarterback Lincoln Wilcox threw a touchdown and ran one in himself in about 90 seconds of game time. The fourth quarter saw no scores from either side, and Layton emerged victorious.

No. 6 Ridgeline Riverhawks (4A) 41 @ No. 15 Brighton Bengals 0

The Ridgeline Riverhawks put on a clinic in week three against the Brighton Bengals, scoring at least once in each quarter of the win. Graham Livingston had three receiving touchdowns. The Knighton brothers, Tayson and Hunter, each caught one as well.

West Jordan Jaguars 0 @ No. 20 Alta Hawks 30

The Alta Hawks were yet another 5A team to take a win while forcing a shutout as they defeated the West Jordan Jaguars on Friday. Treven Cooke opened scoring with a 64-yard first-quarter rumble. After that, the highlight was special teams. Jack McAllister pinned three field goals, with his shortest still coming from 39 yards.

No. 7 American Fork Cavemen 18 @ No. 5 West Panthers 12

The American Fork Cavemen defeated the West Panthers in the battle of titans in week three. It was a low-scoring affair, but a fourth-quarter rushing score from Prince Afu gave the Cavemen a lead that they held until the final whistle.

No. 11 Orem Tigers 37 @ Rocky Mountain (ID) 39

The Orem Tigers were narrowly defeated by the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies after taking a trip up north in week three. Orem made it interesting late, winning the fourth quarter 13-7. But the Grizzlies’ lead was just too much to come back from. Beckham Curtis had a receiving and rushing touchdown in Idaho.

No. 12 Syracuse Titans (6A) 35 @ No. 21 Bountiful Redhawks 7

The Bountiful Redhawks were outmatched by the Syracuse Titans at home in week three. Syracuse scored 14 points in the first and tacked on seven more in the second and third quarters, all while holding Bountiful to a goose egg. Zeke Murdock put the Redhawks on the board late with a rushing score. Syracuse QB Ledger Wright had three passing touchdowns and added a rushing score as well.

Green Canyon Wolves (4A) 13 @ Pleasant Grove Vikings 12

The difference was special teams and defense as the Green Canyon Wolves beat the Pleasant Grove Vikings by one point on Friday. The Vikings missed the extra point on both of their touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Wolves made their point after and made two field goals to give them the lead that ultimately resulted in the win.

Cottonwood Colts (4A) 7 @ Hillcrest Huskies 49

The Hillcrest Huskies scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters as they picked up their first win of the season over the Cottonwood Colts. Three Huskies players scored two touchdowns against the Colts. Charlie Brown ran in twice, and both Levi Lavaka and Miles Ence had two receiving scores.

Highland Rams (4A) 7 @ No. 22 Viewmont Vikings 48

The Viewmont Vikings also ran up the score in the first half of their win over the Highland Rams on Friday. Quarterback Jack Savage threw for four touchdowns in the first half as the Vikings took a 34-0 lead at the break. Caleb Koelliker scored Highland’s lone touchdown on a 46-yard pick-six in the fourth quarter.

Jordan Beetdiggers (4A) 7 @ Clearfield Falcons 23

After letting up a score early, the Clearfield Falcons turned up the heat on the Jordan Beetdiggers to win their second game of the season on Friday. After the first ended with Clearfield trailing 7-3, they scored 20 unanswered to close the game.

No. 2 Lone Peak Knights (6A) 42 @ Timpview Thunderbirds 10

After the first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie, the Lone Peak Knights turned on the afterburners to defeat the Timpview Thunderbirds. Lone Peak scored 19 points in the second quarter and 13 in the third. Knights quarterback Kepa Niumeitolu threw for three touchdowns and ran one in himself as well.

Tooele Buffaloes (4A) 14 @ Cyprus Pirates 42

The Cyprus Pirates scored 35 of their 42 points in the first half of their big win over the Tooele Buffaleos in week three. The Pirates had three rushing scores, two receiving scores, and a scoop-and-score on defense. Each touchdown came from a different player. Tooele’s Mavrik Charlson was a one-man show on Friday, though. He opened the game with a 98-yard kick return touchdown and also scored the Buffaloes’ other TD with a 40-yard catch in the third.

Payson Lions (4A) 45 @ Kearns Cougars 7

The Payson Lions scored double digits in each of the first three quarters in their blowout win over the Kearns Cougars on Friday. Payson’s Hogan Bates had two rushing touchdowns and also scored off a fumble recovery in the first quarter. Quarterback Trevyn Wall threw three touchdowns to three different receivers.

Pine View Panthers (4A) 38 @ Maple Mountain Golden Eagles 14

The Pine View Panthers got their offense going early and rode that momentum to a comfortable win over the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles on Friday. Panthers quarterback Levi Shaw threw three touchdowns, two of which went to receiver Corbin Yocham.

Copper Hills Grizzlies (6A) 43 @ Hunter Wolverines 13

After the first quarter ended with just a field goal in the books, the Copper Hills Grizzlies turned on the jets to defeat the Hunter Wolverines and pick up their second win of the season. The Grizzlies scored 18 points in the second quarter and 15 in the fourth. Safety Logan Morrell returned two pick-sixes for over 100 yards.

Bonneville Lakers 13 @ Wasatch Wasps 37

The Wastahc Wasps scored at least one touchdown in each quarter as they improved t0 2-1 with a victory over the Bonneville Lakers in week three. Four of Wastach’s five scores came on the ground. They totaled over 225 yards rushing against Bonneville.
