Wyoming Coach Jay Sawvel: Utah Football Is A Top Ten Team In The Country

Wyoming football head coach Jay Sawvel spoke with the media ahead of week three and had nothing but good things to say about Utah football.
Sawvel said that he had the Utes as the No. 10 team in the country after week two.
“We have a big game this week against an incredibly good opponent,” Sawvel started. “I vote in the USA Today poll. I had them 12th a week ago, and I had them 10th this week.”

Currently, Utah football sits at No. 20 in the AP Top 25 poll. They started the season unranked.
Sawvel pointed this out, saying he sees something in the program that others might not see right now. He highlighted the lopsided scores from Utah’s first two games as well as some of the team’s strengths.
“I value them a lot more than maybe what someone else on the outside is right now,” Sawvel explained. “They’re really good. Obviously, they’re averaging 53 points a game, and they’re allowing 9.5. They’re good in the return game, they’re extremely strong on defense, physical, they play very hard, and they’re well coached.”
Like Utah, the Cowboys are 2-0 to start the season. They opened with a defensive-minded 10-0 victory over Akron on the road and followed that with a 31-7 win against the Northern Iowa Panthers.
The last time Utah and Wyoming met was back in 2010. The Utes won 30-6 in Laramie.
Sawvel didn’t mince words about what awaits his Cowboys.
“It’s a really, really, really good football team,” Sawvel said. “I can promise you this — there’s not going to be a lot of coaches around the country that watch these guys on video that are signing up and going, ‘let’s go play these guys.’”
Wyoming hosts Utah at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (MT).
After the week three matchup, both teams will head into conference play.
Utah’s first matchup, against the No. 21 Texas Tech Red Raiders, is already being built up as one of the best games in the Big 12 this season.
