Devon Dampier Magic Extends Utah Football Lead Over Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. – After Utah quarterback Devon Dampier lost the football in the pocket, he picked it up and found Larry Simmons for a toetap touchdown.

The play wasn’t just Simmons’ first TD of the season; it was his first catch of the season.

Over the first eight offensive drives, Dampier completed 26 of 40 pass attempts for 216 yards and one touchdown. He also scrambled 13 times for 86 yards.

Although the first half ended with Utah leading just 3-0, the offense was better than the score made it seem.

They moved the ball well and constantly found themselves on the Cowboys’ side of the field. However, execution was lacking in scoring opportunities.

Whatever was said at halftime put all of that in the rearview mirror, and the Utes scored on both of their possessions in the third quarter to go up 17-0.

Utes Close Non-Conference Schedule Against Wyoming Cowboys

The No. 20 Utah football team closes its non-conference schedule today against a familiar foe, the Wyoming Cowboys.

The Utes haven’t played any out-of-state opponent more than the Cowboys in the program’s history. However, the last time the schools met on the gridiron was back in 2010 when they were both members of the Mountain West Conference.

Dating back to 1904, Utah has an 18-19 record in Laramie. But they have won three of the last four on the road and eight of the last nine overall in the series.
