Big 12 Names BYU QB Bear Bachmeier Freshman Of The Week

PROVO, Utah – BYU true freshman QB Bear Bachmeier is improving week after week while leading the No. 23 Cougars to a 4-0 start.
Bachmeier was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week after Brigham Young’s 24-21 road win over the Colorado Buffaloes. It is the second time Bachmeier has earned the weekly award in four games.

The former Stanford Cardinal has completed 61-of-90 passes (67.8 percent) for 697 yards and six touchdowns without an interception.
Bachmeier is second behind only LJ Martin with 163 yards on the ground and has four rushing touchdowns to equal Taysom Hill’s freshman program record.

The Cougars trailed for the first time in 2025, falling behind 14-0 after Colorado came out firing on all cylinders.
The Murrieta, California, native could have folded under the pressure of a Big 12 road game while facing the first deficit of his college career. Instead, Bachmeier buckled down and took control of the game.

He led the Cougars to 17 straight points, grabbing a 17-14 advantage midway through the third period.
After the Buffaloes answered with a touchdown to re-take the lead, Bachmeier led BYU’s final scoring drive of the night.

Two completions to LJ Martin helped soften the middle of the defense, allowing Bachmeier to move his team into Colorado territory on a 16-yard scramble.
Following another QB run, this time for 13 yards, Bachmeier handed to Cody Hagen, who did the rest on a 32-yard touchdown run.

Bachmeier finished the game with 179 passing yards and two TDs on 19-of-27 attempts. He added 98 yards on the ground, averaging 6.5 yards per carry.
