UHSAA Football Playoff Semifinals Recaps: Day Two At Rice-Eccles Stadium

SALT LAKE CITY – The 2025 UHSAA football playoffs semifinals continued at Rice-Eccles Stadium with two 6A matchups, followed by the last 4A semifinal.
The 4A, 5A, and 6A Utah state championship football games will take place at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the University of Utah campus on Thursday, November 20.

The two-time defending 6A champion Corner Canyon Chargers got the day started with an offensive tour de force, beating down the Mountain Ridge Sentinels 59-20 with a second-half surge.
Lone Peak and Skyridge put on a defensive masterpiece, with the Knights getting just enough on offense to avenge a regular-season loss to the Falcons. LP prevailed 13-7 in a hard-hitting matchup.
Corner Canyon will face Lone Peak with the 6A championship on the line on Thursday, November 20. Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. MT.
Green Canyon stunned the 4A world by beating the No. 2 Crimson Cliffs Mustangs, setting up an all-Cache Valley 4A final on Thursday, November 20. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. MT.
6A Semifinals
No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers 59 vs. No. 4 Mountain Ridge Sentinels 20
A stout Charger rushing attack behind RB Weston Briggs and QB Helaman Casuga helped Corner Canyon build a 24-6 halftime lead.
Casuga opened the scoring with a nine-yard run on the first drive of the day. After getting the football back, Briggs broke a 38-yard scoring run to make it a two-touchdown lead.

Mountain Ridge responded with its first scoring drive. An extended second-period drive with RB Zach Ofisa seemingly stuffed at the goalline, before a second surge pushed him into the end zone. The extra point was missed, leaving the Chargers in front 14-6.

Briggs’ second TD capped a long possession for CC.
Both teams scored quick touchdowns to open the second half while leaning on the passing game.
Corner Canyon’s Kai Meza caught a 62-yard TD pass. Mountain Ridge followed with a Jaxon Hunt to Grayden Dumas touchdown.
CC pulled away from there with a 21-point blitz to go up 40. Meza caught his second TD pass of the quarter from 40 yards out, followed by the second huge TD run from Weston Briggs. Senior DB Jaoquin Rodriguez put the finishing touches on the run with a pick-six that gave Corner Canyon a 52-12 lead late in the third quarter.
Corner Canyon advanced to play for its third-straight 6A state title with a 59-20 win over the Sentinels.
No. 2 Skyridge Falcons vs. No. 6 Lone Peak Knights
Both defenses came out strong in a scoreless first quarter.
The Knights broke through first when senior QB Kepa Niumeitolu scampered for a six-yard rushing TD early in the second quarter. LP added a 36-yard Jake Barker field goal for a 10-0 halftime lead.
Skyridge shook off the shackles on its first drive of the second half to put points on the board. QB Kaneal Sweetwyne captained a drive that spanned 80 yards and ended with a five-yard rushing score from Sweetwyne.

Later in the quarter, Lone Peak DB Kennan Pula stopped the Falcons’ momentum with a miraculous, leaping, one-handed interception.

Skyridge’s defense clamped down i the second half, but its offense could not generate enough production against a stout Lone Peak defense.
The Knights held on for the 13-7 win.
4A Semifinals
No. 2 Crimson Cliffs Mustangs vs. No. 14 Green Canyon Wolves
Green Canyon was the better team in the first half as the Mustangs struggled in their return to Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The Wolves scored first when QB Ethan Monk completed a long touchdown pass to Ethan Schramm midway through the first quarter.

Crimson Cliffs finally found a soft spot in the Green Canyon defense late in the half. QB Tanoai Andresen linked up with Briton Phillips on a 29-yard bomb to tie the game 7-7 at the half.

The Mustangs took their first lead early in the second half when Van Dailey plunged into the end zone for a touchdown.
Green Canyon immediately responded with back-to-back touchdowns. Ethan Munk tossed a touchdown pass to Cody Edelmayer to tie the game at 14.

The Wolves’ defense fell on a fumble and wasted no time finding the end zone again. Munk finished the drive with a hard-nosed TD run to take a 21-14 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Briton Phillips’ second TD of the night helped the Mustangs even the game at 21 early in the fourth quarter.
