PROVO, Utah – The police report involving the arrest of BYU basketball starter Kennard Davis Jr. was first obtained by the Deseret News and then by KSL Sports on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, Davis was arrested by the Provo Police Department after responding to a crash at the intersection of 900 West Center Street.
During that accident investigation on Thursday, according to a press release from Provo PD, “officers found cause to place one of the drivers from the accident – Kennard Davis, aged 20 – under arrest for suspected DUI.”
In a synopsis of the redacted police report, Davis is cited for DUI and possession of marijuana.
In the report, the officer stated they were on the scene to provide assistance to a traffic accident. While on the scene, the officer suspected impairment from one of the drivers. That driver was Davis, who was “ultimately arrested for driving under the influence.”
Davis received a standard field sobriety test, according to the report, which led to the arrest.
Bodycam footage from the scene was not included in the police report.
Davis was sidelined on Saturday for BYU’s top-10 matchup against the No. 3 UConn Huskies in Boston. The Cougars lost 86-84, their first loss this season.
Davis was on the team bench during the setback.
BYU basketball head coach Kevin Young opened his postgame press conference before fielding questions after the loss to UConn by stating, “Kennard Davis was held out; violation of team rules. So, to be determined on the length.”
In the two games Davis has played in this season, he started in both. The former Southern Illinois transfer has averaged 9.0 points, 1.5 assists, and shot 58% from the field, and 50% from the three-point line.
