Three Years In, Where Does Puka Nacua Stand On All-Time Lists?

SALT LAKE CITY — The start to Puka Nacua’s NFL career has been legendary. But is it time to widen the scope and ask where he ranks not just among young stars, but among the all-time greats?
He is already at the top when looking through the BYU pros lens, as well as the Rams greats lens. Is there a case for Nacua when you strip all of those qualifiers down?

Puka Nacua: The Greatest NFL Wideout From Provo
There is a very long list of great wide receivers to play at BYU. That list gets much, much shorter when evaluating NFL production compared to what they did in college.
The Cougars have produced some great NFL quarterbacks, tight ends, and defensive players, but not many WRs.
One of the only other real contenders is Golden Richards, who played for the Cowboys in the 1970s and won a Super Bowl. But Nacua has already passed his career numbers in less than half has much time in the league.

Already One Of The Franchise’s Best?
The Rams aren’t the Dallas Cowboys or the San Francisco 49ers, but they still have a storied history and were home to some of the greatest players in NFL history.
Specifically, for wide receivers, you have Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce.
That said, there is a bit of a cliff after Holt and Bruce. Of course, there is triple crown winner Cooper Kupp. Henry Ellard, Elroy Hirsch, and Jack Snow are also worthy of a mention.
However, greatness factors in talent and peak, as well as longevity and team success. With that in mind, Nacua already slots in as a top-five receiver in team history. He could be as high as third if you want to argue Nacua vs. Kupp.

The All-Time Leaderboard
As previously mentioned, greatness factors in many things. Some of which Nacua just doesn’t have yet as a three-year pro.
He hasn’t yet achieved the highest level of team success with a Super Bowl, and he doesn’t have the accumulated stats as some long-time wideouts.
Despite that, his single-season production and overall talent might carry him higher than some would think.
At the top of the ladder, you have players like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss. At around the 100 spot, there are guys like Plaxico Burress and Santana Moss, whom Nacua absolutely has an argument against.
Taking it up further, you’ll find people like Sterling Sharpe and Odell Beckham Jr. at around No. 75. In my opinion, Nacua slots in comfortably in that range.
So no, Nacua isn’t a top-50 wide receiver quite yet. But with his quick ascent on a contending team, he can absolutely get there.
About Puka Nacua
Before his college career, the Provo, Utah native played high school football at Orem High School. He finished his career with the Tigers as the owner of multiple state records.
After high school, the receiver attended the University of Washington and played a couple of seasons for the Huskies.
After the 2020 season, Nacua returned home to Provo and immediately became a star for the Cougars.
Nacua finished his BYU career with a total of 91 catches for 1,430 yards and 11 touchdowns as well as 39 carries for 357 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

In April 2023, the Rams selected Nacua with the No. 177 overall pick during the fifth round of the NFL Draft.
Nacua finished his first season as a professional with an NFL rookie record 105 receptions for 1,486 yards. He also scored six touchdowns.
The rookie wideout received NFL All-Pro second-team honors for his play in 2023. He finished as the runner-up to C.J. Stroud for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Nacua’s sophomore campaign was plagued with injuries, but he still finished the season with 79 receptions for 990 yards and three touchdowns.
