Packers’ Come Up Short Despite Jordan Love’s Heroics

CHICAGO, Illinois – Jordan Love’s four touchdowns weren’t enough as the Green Bay Packers’ defense couldn’t stop Caleb Williams in the second half of a 31-27 loss.
Love and the No. 7 Green Bay Packers traveled to the Windy City for a rivalry matchup with the No. 2 Chicago Bears on Saturday, January 10.

Love ended the night completing 24-of-26 passes, 15-of-24 in the second half, as the Bears’ defense flustered the veteran after a masterful opening 30 minutes.
He finished with four touchdowns and 323 yards through the air.
Jordan Love leads the Packers to an opening drive answer
Chicago took the opening kick and drove deep into Packer territory. The Bears’ nearly eight-minute drive ended with a field goal for a 3-0 lead.
Love took command and completed four of five passes for 52 yards on a lead-changing opening possession.

The big play came when the former Aggie was the beneficiary of excellent protection in the pocket before lofting a pass the Romeo Dobbs for a 33-yard gain.
Five plays later, Christian Watson hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass to give Green Bay a 7-3 advantage with 2:06 left in the opening quarter.
The nine-play, 85-yard drive used up 4:56 of the clock.
Interception begins the second Packers scoring drive
Green Bay DB Carrington Valentine picked off a Claeb Williams deep ball on fourth down, setting his team up with first and ten at the 13-yard line.

Love and running back Josh Jacobs went to work.
The bruising former Alabama running back picked up 20 yards, setting up a shot play that gained 36 yards when Love connected with rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden.
Following a sack, Love found Doubs again, this time for ten yards, moving the Packers into the red zone for the second time.

On second and ten, Love dropped back and found Jaylen Reed at the pylon for an 18-yard scoring strike.
The TD gave Green Bay a 14-3 road lead with 6:46 left in the half.
Love, Pack break Bears back with third passing TD of first-half
More of the same for Green Bay after another Bears turnover on downs set them up at the 32-yard line.
Love found Watson sprinting down the sidelines, picking up 22 yards and coming inches short of a touchdown when the fourth-year wide receiver had the ball knocked loose before crossing the goal line.
Fortunately for the Packers, Doubs jumped on the free football in the end zone, which, by rule, was brought back to the spot of the fumble.

Doubs was rewarded for the heads-up play three snaps later when he and Love hooked up for a one-yard touchdown to build a near insurmountable 21-3 lead before the half.
Love ended the first 30 minutes with 139 yards and three touchdowns on 9-of-12 passing.
Love’s fourth gives Green Bay a late boost
Love thought he had led the game-winning drive following a nightmare start to the second half.
Leading 21-16 and Chicago holding all the momentum, Love led a six-play, 54-yard drive that ended with rookie Matthew Golden eluding tacklers for a 23-yard touchdown.
Consecutive completions to Romeo Doubs began the drive with a 31-yard boost to reach the Chicago 33-yard line.
Another connection with Doubs, this time four nine-yard plays, set up the scoring play.

Love took the snap and immediately fired to Golden on his right, who did the rest of the work.
The first-round pick from Texas broke four tackles and hurdled a fifth on his way to the end zone with his most memorable play as a Packer.
