Park City’s Zoe Atkin Brings Home Bronze In Freeski Halfpipe Event

MILAN, Italy — Park City resident and Great Britain skier Zoe Atkin earned her first Olympic medal, taking home the bronze in the Freestyle Skiing Women’s Freeski Halfpipe event on Sunday.
Atkin held the top score in the qualification and stayed put in the top three to grab Britain’s fifth medal of the 2026 Olympics.

Despite admitting her nerves after making it to the bottom of the course, Atkin held the top score in the first run of the final.
She pieced together a 540 Mute grab, a 720 Indy to Tail grab, a switch 720 Japan grab, a 540 Indy to Tail grab, an Alley-Oop 360 Indy to Japan grab, and a switch 720 Indy to Tail grab.
That combination netted her a 90.50, a whole five points higher than Canada’s Amy Fraser, who sat in second.

Heading into the second run, Atkin faced her first adversity of the Olympic event.
Eileen Gu, the reigning gold medalist, made up for her first throw-away run with an impressive 94.00. Just before Atkin’s turn, China’s Fanghui Li also passed her up with a 91.50.
Now sitting in third, Atkin put together three top-tier tricks before her skis clipped the deck and detached, scrapping her second run and killing any momentum she had built.
Facing the do-or-die final round, it was go time for Atkin. As if that pressure wasn’t enough, both the first- and second-place skiers improved on their previous best scores.
Atkin would also improve, but fell just short of rising higher on the podium. She booked a 92.50, a half-point shy of stealing the silver medal.
