Week 1: Thursday night’s Utah high school football recap

SALT LAKE CITY — Three games kicked off another season of Utah high school football Thursday around the state.
A day later, 55 games will be hosted at various schools as Friday night lights returns for another season.
Here’s what you may have missed.
Mountain Ridge 41, Skyridge 26
At Mountain Ridge, Brady Hunt threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers as the Sentinels made a statement on opening night with a 41-26 road win over Skyridge.
Jordan Classsenn, Marshall West, Bradley Foster and Xander Thayer each caught a touchdown, and Bradley Foster controlled the line of scrimmage behind a strong offensive line before putting the game away with a 17-yard TD run with 5:13 remaining to help the Sentinels start 1-0.
“I’m just proud of our kids,” Mountain Ridge coach Nick Robins told KJZZ after the game. “I thought our defense played really well, they were lights out. And our offense took their shots when they could.
“Coach (Jackson) Peck, our defensive coordinator, does a great job. They made the plays when they needed to; I’m so happy he’s on our staff.”
Jagger Fountaine threw three touchdown passes for Skyridge (0-1), including two to Beckham Bennett.
Stansbury 14, Skyline 10
At Skyline, Brighton Reutzel threw a pair of touchdown passes, including a 9-yard strike to Lincoln Reutzel with 7:22 remaining to help the Stallions hold off the host Eagles to start the season 1-0.
Tate Johnson connected with Tu’i Will for a 38-yard touchdown with nine seconds left in the half to put Skyline (0-1) up 10-0.

But the Reutzels connected for a pair of touchdowns after the break, and the Stansbury defense pitched a second-half shutout to rally to the win.
Cedar 29, Wasatch 19
At Wasatch, Jackson Mann threw four touchdown passes including two to Hunter Burgess to help the Reds by the Wasps for a road win.
Mann found Stevenson with an 80-yard touchdown with 3:35 left in the half as the Reds (1-0) jumped out to a 14-6 advantage. But Bryce Harr pulled the Wasps (0-1) within one, 14-13 with an 80-yard touchdown just before halftime.
Cedar pulled away in the second half when Mann connected with Burgess twice, including a 67-yard strike with 11:05 remaining to pull away for good.
