Former BYU LB Kyle Van Noy signs with Vikings, AP source says

AROUND THE SHIELD — Less than a week after former BYU defensive star Tyler Batty was lost for the season to a torn ACL, the Minnesota Vikings are adding another former BYU star on defense.
The Vikings have agreed to sign 13-year NFL pro Kyle Van Noy, the Associated Press confirmed Tuesday night. The deal was first reported by Netflix’s Tom Pelissero.
Van Noy, 35, was a free agent after spending the past three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, where he totaled 91 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, 23.5 sacks and an interception in 45 games including 29 starts.
The pass-rush specialist joins a group on the edge that includes Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner, though the rest of the rotation remains unsettled after a series of events that included Batty’s knee injury in the final exhibition game of the NFL preseason Friday.
Van Noy joins his fifth team in seven years, though he was recently named to his first Pro Bowl after a career-high 12.5 sacks in 2024. The former second-round draft pick out of BYU in 2014 was drafted by the Detroit Lions, went on to win a pair of Super Bowls with the New England Patriots (and played for another), and also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers.

In Minnesota, Van Noy will reunite with defensive coordinator Brian Flores, with whom he won the two Super Bowls in New England. He’ll likely start on the practice squad before moving up, according to NBC Sports.
He’s currently on 57 sacks in 173 career regular-season games, and can add to the total beginning Sept. 13 when the Vikings open the 2026 season at home against divisional rival Green Bay.
Earlier this month, BYU announced that Van Noy will be inducted into the university’s athletic hall of fame alongside former BYU football star Jason Buck, baseball great Wally Joyner, and multi-sport All-American Shauna Rohbock.
The group will be inducted at a banquet hosted by the Cougar Club on Friday, Sept. 11 before the Cougars’ Big 12 opener against Arizona.
