The John Watson Northern Utah High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school football player in Northern Utah. Presented by John Watson Chevrolet in Ogden, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our winner this week was Bountiful wide receiver and defensive back Braden Boucha.
Northern Utah Players of the Week – Braden Boucha, Bountiful
It’s not often you see a stat line where a player makes an incredible contribution on offense, defense, and special teams. So when Braden Boucha from Bountiful did just that, it was a no brainer for who the player of the week was! Braden finished the night with 2 receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown on offense, a 99-yard kick off return for a touchdown on special teams, and had the game winning interception returned for a touchdown on defense. Bountiful would hold on to win in a thriller over the Syracuse Titans 36-33.
Syracuse led early in the second quarter 10-7, when Bountiful quarterback Hudson Malmrose would connect with Braden on a 63-yard touchdown pass to put the Redhawks ahead. Momentum swung in favor of the Titans, as they would score the next three scores to go up 27-14 with one last second left in the quarter. On the ensuing kick off, Braden Boucha returned it for a 99-yard kick return to give Bountiful a much needed boost heading into halftime. Syracuse added a touchdown early in the third quarter, but Bountiful refused to allow momentum to favor the Titans. Max Feller scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Redhawks to stay within a score of Syracuse. Braden Boucha would then intercept the Titans quarterback, and return it to score for what would end up being the game winning touchdown.
