Game Night Live Rewind: Region Titles Up For Grabs In Final Week Of Regular Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Region championships are on the line during the final week of the regular season in prep boys basketball.

Dusty Litster and Dane Stewart from Game Night Live Rewind went classification-by-classification in the latest edition of their talk show to break down the leaders in each region, and their favorites to win in each class.

Region 9: The Beast Of 4A

Litster said it best on the show, “Region 9 is the absolute bear of that classification!”

The Southern Utah region boasts both Lister’s and Stewart’s picks for state champions, Dixie and Cedar, respectively.

However, that’s not to say other regions are without challengers to the Flyers and Reds.

“You gotta watch out for Juan Diego,” said Stewart. “18-2, it’s the best record in 4A, they’re undefeated in Region 10, and they have this grittiness about them after playing some upper classification teams.”

Timpview Still Leaders in 5A

The Thunderbirds are leading the way in the 5A classification, despite the injury to BYU commit Jake Wahlin during Timpview’s win over Lehi last week. They ended up beating the Pioneers for their 11th straight win, then knocked off Alta without Wahlin on Friday.

“The Timpview Thunderbirds finding themselves with all sorts of seperation in the region. I did not see that coming!,” exclaimed Stewart.

Other contenders for a state title, according to Litster, include Olympus, Lehi and Farmington and their own star Collin Chandler.

The Case For Westlake In 6A

The Thunder are rolling. Westlake boasts an 18-1 record going into the final week of the season, including an 8-0 record in their own region. “I had a coach in Region 4 tell me they’re the most physical team in [the region],” Stewart said.

That’s not to say the rest of Region 4 isn’t filled with talent, according to both hosts. “When you have the 6 teams in the region all in the top 8-9 in the classification, and on any given night you know number one or two could go down, I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it. [It is] unreal,” Stewart said.

In other regions, Litster and Stewart say the Bingham Miners and Davis Darts, both currently leading or co-leading their regions, have a chance to compete for a state title when the playoffs come around.
