WOODS CROSS — Sam Bahr thought it was smooth sailing to 2-0 after Woods Cross’ football jumped out to a big lead against West Field in the Game Night Live Game of the Week.
It turned out to be anything-but.
Bahr rumbled into the end zone from five yards out with 1 minute, 10 seconds remaining to help the Wildcats stay unbeaten with a 26-21 win over West Field in nonregion play Friday night at Woods Cross High School.
The win keeps Woods Cross undefeated one week after holding off Syracuse, 27-26. But that’s also a mark of the team, Bahr said.
“I think this just shows our grit and determination,” Bahr told the Game Night Live crew postgame. “We don’t have a lot of depth, but we have a lot of guys going both ways. It just shows how tough we are, and it’s awesome.”

The Wildcats (2-0) jumped out to the early lead, scoring on three straight rushing touchdowns including Bronson Martin’s 21-yard sprint just over a minute into the second quarter to help the hosts to a 20-0 halftime advantage.
But the Longhorns (0-2) didn’t go away.
Easton Eilertson opened the scoring with a 10-yard pass to Kolt Abbott with 4:56 left in the third quarter.
After Elijah Woods opened the fourth with a five-yard touchdown run, the 6-foot-4 junior connected with Gavin Ortegon on an 80-yard touchdown over the top of the defense to bring West Field (0-2) all the way back to take a 21-20 edge on Jaxon Hart’s extra point with 7:26 remaining.
But that left plenty of time for Bahr, who barreled into the end zone just before the final minute to help the Wildcats hold on.
“It was crazy, man,” Bahr said. “I thought it was easy rolling in the first half, and then we came out in the second half and we weren’t on the horse like we were in the first half. We just had to get it back together and keep going.”
Woods Cross continues its three-game homestand to open the season next week, hosting Stansbury on Friday, Aug. 28.
West Field returns home to host Ogden at 7 p.m. MT Friday.
