Grantsville Holds Off Morgan’s Late Comeback For Big 3A Win

GRANTSVILLE, Utah – The Grantsville Cowboys picked up a massive win in 3A with a 21-7 win over Morgan on Game Night Live on Friday night.
It was a defensive battle throughout but Grantsville was able to get two touchdown runs by Blake Thomas in the win over Morgan.
The first touchdown of the game didn’t come until midway through the second quarter when Blake Thomas ran in a short TD for Grantsville to give the Cowboys a 7-0 lead with 6:13 remaining until halftime. When Morgan went to punt the ball, it slipped out of the punter’s hands which gave the Cowboys prime field position.
On the very next play, Caleb Sullivan threw a 25-yard TD pass to Ethan Rainer to put Grantsville up 14-0 with 3:17 left in the first half. Morgan was able to get into the red zone and decided to go for it on fourth down but threw an incomplete pass in the end zone.

In the third quarter, Morgan was trucking down the field but fumbled the ball in Grantsville territory and the Cowboys recovered. Midway through the fourth quarter, Grantsville was content with their 14-0 lead and chewed up a bunch of clock but eventually had to punt the ball to Morgan with under seven minutes to play.
The Trojans scored their first touchdown of the night on the next drive when Nick Despain found Tate Nelson in the end zone. That cut the Grantsville lead to 14-7 with 4:56 left in the game. Blake Thomas put any chance of Morgan coming back to bed when he ran in a touchdown to seal the win, taking a 21-7 lead with 2:43 remaining in the game.
Grantsville improved their record to 6-2 on the season. They will be on the road on Friday, October 7 against Union at 7 p.m. (MDT).
Morgan dropped to 5-3 on the year. They will be back on the road to face Ogden on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
