Week 4: 4A Utah High School Football Recap

SALT LAKE CITY – The Murray Spartans outlasted the Jordan Beetdiggers, securing a two-point win in quadruple overtime in week four of 4A high school football on Friday.

At the end of the regulation, the score was tied 14-14 as Murray attempted a 20-yard field goal. The attempt was blocked, sending the game into extra periods.

It took four of those periods for a team to come out on top. A two-point conversion catch from Brady Barney ultimately sealed the deal, 30-28.

Week 4 Recap For 4A Utah High School Football

Region 10

Highland Rams 55 @ Cottonwood Colts 0

The Highland Rams picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion over the Cottonwood Colts on Friday. Highland dropped 21 points in the first quarter and followed that with an insane 34 points in the second quarter. Six different Rams players scored a TD in week four.

Juan Diego Soaring Eagle 21 @ Skyline Eagles 55

The Skyline Eagles scored two or more touchdowns in three quarters as they soared to a big win over the Juan Diego Soaring Eagle in week four. Running back Jonah Mailei and quarterback Xavier Cocci each punched in two scores on the ground. Cocci added four passing TDs, each to a different receiver.

Region 11

Tooele Buffaloes 28 @ Deseret Peak Golden Eagles 6

The Tooele Buffaloes scored a touchdown in each quarter of their win over the Deseret Peak Golden Eagles on Thursday. After the Golden Eagles opened scoring, the Buffaloes punched in a rushing score in each quarter, all while stifling the offense on the other end.

Sky View Bobcats 62 @ Bear River Bears 17

The Sky View Bobcats’ offense was firing on all cylinders in a big win over the Bear River Bears in week four. After scoring 13 unanswered points in the first quarter, Sky View followed that with 21 points in the second and third quarters. Bobcats quarterback Jack Clark threw for seven touchdowns, three of which went to receiver Zachary Oxborrow.

No. 22 Stansbury Stallions 7 @ Green Canyon Wolves 15

The Green Canyon Wolves made sure to add to their total in each quarter as they rose to a win over the Stansbury Stallions on Friday. Bransen Munk scored the Wolves’ only touchdown on a two-yard rush in the third quarter. All of Green Canyon’s other points came on field goals and a safety.

No. 15 Mountain Crest Mustangs 10 @ No. 4 Ridgeline Riverhawks 34

The Ridgeline Riverhawks remained undefeated as they handed the Mountain Crest Mustangs their first loss of the season in week four. The Mustangs started strong with a field goal in the first quarter while holding Ridgeline scoreless. From the beginning of the second quarter to the final minutes of the game, the Riverhawks scored all of their points without a response. Quarterback Nate Dahle threw for two touchdowns and ran two in himself.

Non-Region

No. 23 Provo Bulldogs 14 @ Rocky Mountain (ID) 49

The Provo Bulldogs’ early-season struggles continued in Idaho in week four as the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies defended their home turf. Quarterback Gehrig Orchard and receiver Ronnie Wright connected on two third-quarter touchdowns, but other than that, it was all Rocky Mountain.

East Catholic (WA) 51 @ East Leopards 0

Washington State’s Eastside Catholic Crusaders came into Utah this week and will head back to the Pacific Northwest with a big win. The East Panthers had no answers on offense or defense, allowing seven touchdowns and failing to get into the end zone themselves.

Uintah Utes 15 @ Union Cougars (3A) 14

The Uintah Utes defeated the Union Cougars by just one point to secure their first victory of the season in week four. A combined four first-half rushing scores had the game at 14-12 in Union’s favor going into halftime. The second half saw just one field goal, made by Uintah’s Colton Van Wagoner, as the Utes stole the win on the road.

Brighton Bengals (5A) 29 @ No. 16 Crimson Cliffs Mustangs 35

The Brighton Bengals made a late push but ended up falling just short against the Crimson Cliffs Mustangs in week four. Each side went about adding to the tally a bit differently. Brighton had four passing scores while Crimson Cliffs had four rushing scores. Two of the Bengals’ touchdowns came in the final half of the fourth quarter, but they were only able to close the lead to one possession.

Timpanogos Timberwolves 20 @ Pine View Panthers 44

The Pien View Panthers scored 28 points in the first quarter, setting them up for a big win over the Timpanogos Timberwolves in week four. Running back Kyle Richardson ran in four touchdowns, two of which came from over 40 yards out.

Hurricane Tigers 12 @ Grantsville Cowboys (3A) 13

The Grantsville Cowboys gave the Hurricane Tigers their first loss of the season by just one point in week four. Through the first three quarters, the Cowboys built a 13-6 lead. In the final minute, Hurricane scored to make it a one-point lead. They opted to go for two and the win, but the run was stopped, leaving the lead intact.

Dixie Flyers 34 @ Layton Christian Academy Eagles 21

The Dixie Flyers scored 20 unanswered points from the second to the fourth quarter to get a lead they wouldn’t lose against the Layton Christian Academy Eagles on Friday. Dixie’s Chaz Holbrook had three touchdown grabs and over 100 yards receiving.
